<div>SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Accounting Manager will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities.
The Accounting Manager will lead all day to day finance operations, including functional responsibility over all accounting functions including grants administration. He or she will insure that Lutheran Social Services of Northern California has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits.
<div>Responsibilities:
Finance and Accounting Leadership
<ul><li>Oversee daily operations of the accounting department.</li><li>
Take responsibility for accounts payable/receivable, general ledger and account reconciliations and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.</li><li>
Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs and program budgets and actual expenditures.</li><li>
Regularly produce financial reports and statements.</li><li>
Monitor and analyze accounting data.</li><li>
Coordinate all audit activity.</li><li>
Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner.
</li><li>Oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period.</li><li>
Train and hire new employees as needed.</li><li>
Present the financials to the Board in the absence of CFO.</li></ul>
Team Leadership
<ul><li>Leverage strengths of the current Accounting team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.</li><li>
Possess strong supervisory skills</li><li>
Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.</li></ul></div>
<div>Qualifications
This is an extraordinary opportunity for a mature leader with seven to ten years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. S/he will ideally have experience in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programs. Other qualifications include:
<ul><li>Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and unwavering commitment to LSSNC Nonprofit&rsquo;s mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own the responsibility of finance.</li><li>
Minimum of a BS degree in accounting or finance and related field; CPA and/or MBA preferred but not mandatory.</li><li>
Minimum five to seven years of experience in accounting or finance supervisory role.</li><li>
Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll and accounting for investments.</li><li>
A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate and foundation grants is essential.</li><li>
Technology savvy with experience managing and overseeing relationships with vendors; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.</li><li>
Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training and retaining a diverse team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly.</li><li>
Keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills, which allows for strategic data interpretation vs. simple reporting.</li><li>
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board and other outside partners.</li><li>
Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts and information to individuals at all levels including non-finance managers.</li></ul>

This position requires the ability to see, review and share the organizations bills, payments, financial statements, and physical accounting files with other accounting staff; the incumbent will also have access to the organization&rsquo;s banking and other highly confidential financial information. Because of this, the incumbent must have the ability to perform the job at the location of the organization&rsquo;s accounting staff.
The employee may be required to travel to locations within the regional areas of LSS. This may require standing in lines and while traveling the employee may be exposed to vibration while driving a car. While performing the duties of the job, the employee may occasionally travel outside in varied weather conditions.</div></div>
