Alaska Marine Lines is looking for a Refrigeration Mechanic to maintain and repair our refrigerated containers at our terminal in Seattle. This is a Safety Sensitive position.
 Our Refrigeration Mechanics can make anywhere between $37.00 – $56.51 an hour (depending on skills and experience) and, work Monday – Friday with opportunities for overtime. We always have work to get done and can ensure you get 40 hours a week no matter the season.
 Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 <ul>
<li>Diagnose & repair refrigerated container systems using specialized tools and meters as well as hand & power tools.</li>
<li>Perform preventative maintenance to ensure reliability and calibration of units.</li>
<li>Perform brazing and soldering of both copper and brass components in the refrigeration system using oxy/acetylene torch.</li>
<li>Diagnose and repair both high and low voltage electrical circuits using wiring diagrams and schematics.</li>
<li>Upload software and download information from the units’ microprocessor and for generating repair orders and parts inventory in fleet maintenance program.</li>
<li>Work with Shop Lead and Department Manager in maintaining adequate inventory of spare parts, materials, and tooling. Work with Purchasing Department in requisitioning items in the absence of Shop Lead and/or Department Manager.</li>
<li>Learn and properly use the manufacturer’s service software with electronic equipment.</li>
<li>Record daily repairs in M&R maintenance software.</li>
<li>Own basic hand tools common to the trade and specifically an electrical meter, and be willing and able to acquire additional tooling as the position requires. Must be able to properly use and maintain company supplied tooling</li>
<li>Able to meet forklift certification requirements.</li>
<li>Ability and willingness to travel to Alaska two or more times a year as required for varied lengths of time.</li>
<li>Attend and maintain required training.</li>

Education and/or Experience:

<li>EPA certified type 2 or better for CFR required, Universal EPA preferred.</li>
<li>Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.</li>
<li>Previous experience repairing Carrier or Star Cool refrigeration units a plus.</li>

SUMMARY: 
Freight Operators perform a series of important tasks in warehouse facilities, marine terminals and barge vessels. This position is highly active and requires somebody who enjoys hard work, problem solving, and ever-changing situations. Freight Operators can often have the opportunity to travel outside of their home port to assist other Service Centers. Safety is Lynden’s first responsibility to our employees and our customers. This position is a safety-sensitive position and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner is required. Class A CDL highly preferred or the ability to obtain class A CDL.
 
This is a seasonal full-time position; normal schedule would be April through September with the possibility of hours in the off-season.
 
Freight Operations l
 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Secures, unloads and loads breakbulk and less-than container load (LCL) freight with a variety of equipment including banding, dunnage, lumber, binders and chains. This position usually operates in a marine or warehouse facility. Operates a warehouse forklift. Supports operations by working on the deck of the barge to set and pull cones, secure containers and other equipment to the deck of the barge and assist operators as needed. Generally involved with the process of receiving and distributing freight to and from customers at the working facility. Assist in the maintenance of company property and general facility housekeeping duties.
 
Freight Operations II
 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All the responsibilities of a Freight Operations I. Is certified to operating a forklift up to 52t in a marine terminal. In most locations a Class A CDL with appropriate endorsements and the ability to efficiently unload and load their truck in a marine terminal is required; this includes stacking containers in the yard safely and efficiently. This position requires at least 1-2 years of freight operations experience.
 
Freight Operations lll
 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All the responsibilities of a Freight Operations I – ll. Is certified to operate a forklift up to 52t on the deck of a barge. Qualified as a barge master and understands the rules for stowing and securement of freight and equipment on a barge. Assists in the training and development of a Freight Operations I and II. In most locations a Class A CDL with appropriate endorsements and the ability to efficiently unload and load their truck in a marine terminal is required; this includes stacking containers in the yard safely and efficiently.
 
Freight Operations lV
 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All the responsibilities of a Freight Operations I – III. Highly qualified with an advanced level of experience operating friction cranes on land and on barges. This position actively travels for crane work on and off the deck of a barge. A Class A CDL with appropriate endorsements and the ability to efficiently unload and load their truck in a marine terminal is required; this includes stacking containers in the yard safely and efficiently.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position; employee customarily works at least 40 hours/week on a planned continuous basis due to barge schedules and customer requirements. Employees must be able to work flexible hours. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 
High school diploma or equivalent, one-to-three months of work-related experience and/or training in general freight operations. Experience in the transportation industry is preferred.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS: 
Ability to read, interpret, and write documents such as bills of ladings, tariffs, delivery receipts, military documents, procedure manuals, employee and safety manuals, and routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and clearly with customers, vendors, managers, and other employees. Strong communication skills both verbally and in written form.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: 
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
<ul>
<li>Must have the ability to work well under pressure and handle demanding customer needs.</li>
<li>Ability to handle hazardous freight per company and regulatory specifications.</li>
<li>Count, weigh, and verify condition/piece counts of freight shipments against various documents (e.g., bills of lading, freight manifests, inspection sheets, delivery receipts, etc.) and record information using a variety of data entry processes in accordance with Company’s standards.</li>
