Medical Coder Job Summary: Assign diagnosis and procedures codes to patient accounts to ensure accurate and timely claims to be submitted to payers for reimbursement. This position needs to be comfortable coding a variety of modalities including Rural Health Clinic, physician billing, and outpatient services.

Medical Coder Essential Accountabilities:
<ul>
<li>Completes Rural Health Clinic, physician, and outpatient coding functions utilizing approved system workflow applications for coding, abstracting, and financial billing.</li>
<li>Demonstrates the ability to achieve accurate, complete and consistent selection of principle and relevant secondary diagnosis and procedures; identifies complications/co-morbid conditions; and verifies discharge disposition codes. Knowledge of ICD10, Rural Health Clinic requirements, CMS-CMGs and other quality indicators that impact reimbursement and public reporting.</li>
<li>Queries physicians for clarification of documentation as directed by Coding Guidelines, CPT Assistant and facility specific guidelines.</li>
<li>Responds to queries from Billing and Patient Financial Services teams within departmental guidelines.</li>
<li>Follows American Hospital Association (AHA) Coding Guidelines and other regulatory agency directives for ICD, CPT, and HCPCS II coding.</li>
<li>Maintains current knowledge of coding issues by reading official coding guidelines such as AHA Coding Clinic, American Medical Association (AMA) CPT Assistant, WPS and CMS medical necessity regulations.</li>
<li>Meets productivity and accuracy requirements consistently per HIM policy.</li>
<li>Maintains professional certification as mandated by professional organizations (AHIMA, AAPC).</li>
<li>Assists HIM management in orientation and training of new staff and contract coders, as required. Serves as resource and subject matter expert to other coding staff and hospital staff.</li>
<li>Attend continuing education seminars via remote or on site as scheduled to maintain credentialing.</li>
<li>May perform other duties as assigned.</li>

Medical Coder Qualifications:

Education:
<ul>
<li>High school degree or equivalent</li>
<li>Associate degree or equivalent in Heath Information Management preferred</li>
</ul>
Certifications:
<ul>
<li>Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred</li>
<li>Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)</li>
</ul>
Medical Coder Experience:
<ul>
<li>2 years of Rural Health Clinic coding experience preferred and working knowledge of CPSI preferred.</li>
</ul>
Skills:
<ul>
<li>Highly knowledgeable of clinical information such as disease process, pathology, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, and procedural and surgical intervention.</li>
<li>Knowledge of computerized encoder and abstracting systems as well as coding guidelines.</li>
<li>Essential knowledge of ICD coding conventions, CPT coding conventions and DRG/APC encoder applications.</li>
<li>Mastery of coding guidelines for sequencing and selection</li>
</ul>

Float Cook Essential Accountabilities:<ul><li>
Reviews menus for Meals-On-Wheels and hospital meals to prepare and organize services in a timely manner.</li><li>
Monitors adjustments in patient dietary information to update current records and adjust services accordingly.</li><li>
Coordinates and assists other kitchen staff with meal preparation, serving, and distribution for the Hospital and Meals-On-Wheels to support and ensure a productive work environment.</li><li>
Operates and monitors kitchen appliances to maintain temperature, environment, and food storage safety and prevent food waste.</li><li>
Executes and maintains a clean workspace to ensure a food safe environment.</li><li>
Assists in organizing and arranging delivered goods to maintain an organized and efficient workspace.</li><li>
Works well under pressure and can multitask, abilities to switch tasks at a short notice.</li></ul>
Other Skills:<ul><li>
Works well in a team setting.</li><li>
Abilities to perform using basic math skills.</li><li>
Implements effective communication skills.</li></ul>
Float Cook Qualifications:
Education/Licensure/Certifications:<ul><li>
Some High schooling; must be at least 16 years of age, 18+ to operate kitchen equipment.</li></ul>
