 Principal Accountabilities

 Assists anesthesiologists as directed, performing duties according to the age/needs of the patient/patient population served.

 Prepares anesthesia machine and cart with required supplies prior to each case; assists in maintaining anesthesia and monitoring equipment/ancillary devices, warmers (fluid &amp; patient), accuracy and/or the adjustment or exchange of monitors, ventilators and gas cylinders as indicated.
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrates an ability to recognize specialty needs and anticipate preparation and follow-up i.e. CJD, MH, Airborne-TB, Latex sensitivity and Laser cases.
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrates the ability to assist with endotracheal intubation and extubation procedures during routine and emergency procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs inventory; orders and restocks anesthesia medications, trays and supplies; restocks anesthesia carts according to established protocol; cleans and restocks anesthesia machines, cart, supply rooms, shelves, and refrigerators as required; transports anesthesia equipment/supplies to other departments as needed.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ensures clean to dirty sanitation/containment and standard infection control precautions and professional performance. This includes but not limited to: vigilant sterile technique and care with invasive lines, facilitate/assist anesthesiologist in following CDC guidelines for Central Line Placement-Deterring CRBSI Catheter-related blood stream infections, disinfection and high level disinfection of semi-critical items and care of flexible scopes and specialty instrumentation.
 </li>

 Actively participates in Quality Assurance and associated documentation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Other duties may be carried as patient care dictates, such as but not limited to: patient hair removal, blood product &amp; blood cooler transport, patient transport, anesthetized patient positioning within national safety goals and MHHS RED Rules and Surgical Safety Checklist.

<ul><li>Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT). Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.</li><li>
Current Respiratory Care Practitioner License or Temporary Respiratory Care Practitioner License.</li><li>
Basic Life Support</li><li>
One (1) of the following is preferred: ACLS, PALS, NRP, CPFT, RPFT, RPSGT, Asthma Certified Educator, NRP Instructor, ACLS Instructor, PALS Instructor, or BLS Instructor.</li></ul>
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:<ul><li>

Six (6) months of critical care experience, preferred</li><li>
The position requires occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping and squatting. Fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, the ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing are also necessary. The visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position.</li><li>
Ability to commit to elected commitment schedule, with flexibility in scheduling and in moving within patient care areas when necessary.</li></ul>
Principal Accountabilities<ul><li>
Performs duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the CQI process. Perform respiratory care quality assurance problem solving and take appropriate actions.</li><li>
Performs respiratory care procedures: administers medical gases, humidifiers and aerosols for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes according to advanced skills check-off for RCP II. Conducts advanced patient education per skills check-off.</li><li>
Takes and follows verbal treatment orders from physicians in administering drugs and medications to the cardiopulmonary system of patients. Evaluates treatment program, results and takes appropriate action.</li><li>
Performs the following: patient assessment, interpret arterial blood gases, pulmonary function testing, hemodynamics and chest x-rays as indicated in skills check-off for RCP II. Develop respiratory care plan and make recommendations for patient management. Serve as a resource person to RCP I.</li><li>
Communicates effectively with professional colleagues. Manages time effectively. Documents appropriately in the medical records and completes other documentation duties accurately and efficiently according to policies and procedures.</li><li>
Participates in the evaluation of new respiratory care equipment.</li><li>
Remain current in respiratory care through continuing education, participation in in-service training, and review of journals. Conducts inter and intradepartmental respiratory care in-services at least once a year to patients, staff, hospital, system or to the community.</li><li>

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology or Radiologic Technology

Certificate in Basic or Advanced Life Support and Current license or temporary license by the Texas Medical Board (MRT), required. In addition, one (1) of the following required:</li><li>

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:<ul><li>
