This position is a part-time grade 1, bargaining unit position with a pay rate beginning at $11.00 per hour. Applicants should be friendly, customer-service driven, detail-oriented, with the ability to work alone efficiently. This position reports to the Materials Management Manager. Immediate Supervisor: Department Manager
Basic Function:
Performs routine and nonprofessional work in the library such as shelving, and maintaining books and other library materials in proper order. Position may be full or part time and is determined by the needs of the library.
Distinguishing Features of the Class:
This classification performs routine work in shelving library materials in a safe, accurate and efficient manner. Employees assigned to this class are required to provide service in accordance with the Library&rsquo;s mission, core values, and strategic plan.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Sorts, alphabetizes, shelves, and retrieves library materials</li><li>
Reads library shelves for order and neatness</li><li>
Loads and unloads books from carts, and/or book drop to be delivered to the proper area</li><li>
Unloads donation bin onto carts and delivers carts to appropriate department</li><li>
Following set procedures, checks in clean-up materials and sorts onto appropriate carts</li><li>
Changes status for items to be evaluated by other departments</li><li>
Shifts and straightens materials as necessary.</li><li>
Reaches up or down to shelve materials.</li><li>
Clears and neatens library tables and seating areas at closing.</li><li>
Assists in location and retrieval of materials as requested</li><li>
Pulls back issues of newspapers, periodicals, peripherals, and serials</li><li>
Maintains neat and orderly work area</li></ul>
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:<ul><li>
Ability to alphabetically and numerically (decimal) file accurately and perform simple clerical work</li><li>
Ability to manipulate loaded book carts weighing 300 pounds over carpeted floors</li><li>
Manipulates library materials up to 30 pounds</li><li>
Physical demands include the ability to perform repetitive reaching, bending, and squatting</li><li>
Basic computer skills required to access work email and HR/payroll software</li><li>
Must display tact and courtesy</li><li>
Desire and ability to work as a contributing member of a team environment</li><li>
Must possess good judgment</li><li>
Attention to detail</li><li>
Ability to adapt in a changing environment</li><li>
Must display thoroughness and dependability</li></ul>
Education, Training and Experience:
Student applicants must be at least 16 years old and be able to submit a complete minor work permit. Adult applicants must have a high school education or equivalent. Applicants must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions, complete forms, and understand and communicate instructions.

Employees shall have regular attendance, be flexible with regards to scheduling which includes daytimes, evening, and weekend hours; and be in adequate physical condition to fulfill the requirements of the job.</div>
