Location: Flagstaff Science Center (Moonshot) &amp; other Northern Arizona camp sites Reports To: Education Programs Director Status: Seasonal, Full-Time during camp weeks (May 23&ndash;August 1; possible spring/fall sessions) Compensation: $18&ndash;$26/hour, based on experienceAbout Odyssey CampsOdyssey Camps, powered by the Meteor Crater Education Alliance, are week-long, hands-on STEM adventures for kids ages 5&ndash;13. Our camps blend science, engineering, and creativity into fun, memorable experiences that inspire curiosity and confidence. From launching rockets to exploring ancient survival skills, campers learn by doing in a safe, engaging, and supportive environment.Position OverviewWe are hiring 3 camp instructors and 2 assistant instructors. STEM Camp Instructors lead daily camp activities, ensuring an exciting, safe, and inclusive environment for all participants. You&rsquo;ll bring STEM concepts to life through demonstrations, guided projects, and playful challenges&mdash;while fostering teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity. Assistant instructors will aid in carrying out the provided lesson plans and supporting the campers, as needed. Instructor pay range: $20-26 per hour and may work up to 55 hours per week. Assistant Instructor pay range: $18-20 per hour and are expected to work 40 hours per week.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Ability to implement provided lesson plans, lead hands-on STEM activities, experiments, and engineering challenges based on camp themes.</li><li>Create a welcoming, inclusive, and encouraging atmosphere for campers of all backgrounds and abilities.</li><li>Assist with camp setup, cleanup, and organization of materials each day.</li><li>Help supervise campers during activities, lunch, and transition times, ensuring safety and positive group dynamics.</li><li>Support volunteers and high school assistants in their roles with clear guidance and mentorship.</li><li>Communicate regularly with MCEA Staff about daily needs, challenges, and successes.</li><li>Enforce camp rules and safety protocols both indoors and outdoors.</li></ul>QualificationsRequired:<ul><li>Experience working with children (teaching, camp counseling, tutoring, afterschool programs, etc.).</li><li>Enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, and math, and the ability to inspire that enthusiasm in kids.</li><li>Strong communication, leadership, and group management skills.</li><li>Ability to adapt to changing situations and think on your feet.</li><li>Reliability, punctuality, and a professional, positive attitude.</li><li>Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, work indoors and outdoors, and be active for extended periods.</li><li>Current or ability to obtain Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (Arizona) and CPR/First Aid certification.</li></ul>Preferred:<ul><li>Ability to create engaging lesson plans related to the established themes.</li><li>Experience in informal STEM education, makerspaces, or science camps.</li><li>Background in a STEM-related field (student, graduate, or professional).</li><li>Comfort with hands-on science equipment, craft tools, and simple technology.</li></ul>Schedule<ul><li>Camp weeks run Monday&ndash;Friday, 8:30 AM&ndash;4:00 PM (plus setup/prep time as needed).</li><li>Training and orientation before the start of camp.</li><li>Potential for work in school break camps during fall, winter, and spring.</li></ul>The Meteor Crater Education Alliance (MCEA) is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive environment.
