MiaPrep Online High School (MOHS) is our online high school for students grades 7-12. Formed in 2022 and accredited in 2023, we&rsquo;ve grown from 80 students our first year to over 730 in 2025! Miaplaza&rsquo;s leadership aims to continue this high-growth trajectory, with a goal of serving 10,000+ students in the next 5-10 years!
We're seeking a passionate and resourceful Secondary ASL Teacher to join our team. This is a fully remote, asynchronous teaching role that emphasizes student support, feedback, and mentorship rather than live instruction. Teachers at MOHS do not create lesson plans or deliver live classes; instead, they guide students through our self-paced curriculum on MiaPrep.com, providing coaching, small-group tutoring, and in-depth feedback on summative assignments. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, all MOHS teachers also serve as Student Advisors to a caseload of up to 20 students, building relationships and helping students meet their goals.

Teacher Role<ul><li>
Basic Responsibilities: Responsible for becoming familiar with the structured student learning path, including lesson videos, guided practice worksheets, and ASL assessments.</li><li>
Role Structure: While students learn asynchronously from pre-recorded materials, teachers step in to support during key checkpoints: grading expressive and receptive assignments using provided rubrics, referencing lesson content in feedback, and guiding students toward previously created appropriate practice materials or clarification as needed.</li><li>
Grading and Feedback: Evaluating student video submissions, primarily expressive video assignments and comprehension tasks using provided grading rubrics to ensure consistency and alignment with curriculum goals.<ul><li>
Deliver clear, supportive, and accurate written feedback that helps students reflect, revise, and grow in their ASL skills.</li><li>

Group Tutoring: Host weekly virtual group tutoring one or more times per week to clarify curriculum concepts, address questions, and offer additional support for American Sign Language topics and assignments.</li></ul>
Academic Advising<ul><li>
Advising Caseload: Maintain a caseload of students for whom you will provide academic advising, including quarterly check-ins and, in some cases, targeted support plans.</li><li>
Tiered Support: Identify struggling students and, together with the Academic Counselors and Student Support Specialists, proactively provide tiered support solutions to enhance their academic performance.</li><li>
Parental and Student Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for both parents and students in academic matters in your subject area, ensuring a constructive channel of communication.</li></ul>
School Culture<ul><li>
School Community Engagement: Actively participate in school initiatives and contribute to the creation and implementation of school-wide academic policies. Lead or contribute to an extracurricular club or activity that aligns with your expertise or passion.</li><li>
Positive Culture Building: Uphold and contribute to our school's positive culture and values, both among the faculty and the student body.</li><li>
Ownership: Be willing to speak up when things can be improved, and willing to step up when a need is identified, or support is needed within the school community.</li></ul>
Schedule<ul><li>
MOHS Teachers are expected to have 40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis.</li><li>
Availability during school hours, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm in a U.S. timezone (ET, CT, MT, or PT) is required to hold office hours, student meetings, and other school activities.</li><li>
A significant portion of the work such as grading, can be completed outside of school hours.</li></ul>
Requirements<ul><li>
2+ years of classroom ASL teaching experience (preferably high school or ASL 1 level)</li><li>
Strong fluency in ASL (10 years or more) and understanding of Deaf culture</li><li>
Proficiency in written English communication for student and parent support</li><li>
Ability to review and assess student videos using provided rubrics</li><li>
Confidence using pre-made materials and lesson plans</li><li>
Professional experience supporting students in secondary education within the last 5 years</li><li>
Strong written communication skills</li><li>
Ability to work independently in a remote setting</li><li>
Excellent organizational and multitasking skills</li><li>
Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly, such as gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, and Google Suite</li><li>
Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sector</li></ul>
All MOHS staff are considered mandated reporters and are required to respond to student safety and mental health concerns in accordance with the MOHS Crisis Response protocols. This includes participating in required training and, when appropriate, administering the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and following all documentation and escalation procedures.
Preferred Qualifications<ul><li>
Teaching certification in ASL, World Languages, or Deaf Education</li><li>
Familiarity with ACTFL standards or proficiency-based ASL instruction</li><li>
Experience with online or hybrid instruction</li><li>
Comfort with tools like Google Docs, Zoom, and LMS platforms</li><li>
Online teaching experience (nice to have but not required!)</li></ul>
Compensation &amp; Benefits<ul><li>
The expected starting pay range is $26.60 - $37.38 per hour. Teachers at MiaPrep Online High School work an average of 40 hours per week. When working year-round, this can equate to an annual pay range of $55,328 - $77,750.</li><li>
Miaplaza&rsquo;s compensation philosophy ensures equity and competitiveness while considering the regional differences in living and labor costs. Specific rates will be provided during the hiring process and are aligned with market data and internal equity.</li><li>
Compensation is evaluated twice per year, based on performance. MOHS Teachers&rsquo; compensation is first and foremost determined by performance and impact.</li><li>

PTO is all-purpose time off, and combines traditional vacation and paid sick leave plans into one flexible, inclusive policy. Eligible employees can use PTO for all kinds of absences including: vacation, holidays, illness, injury, family leave, and other personal business. Full-time employees receive 16 hours of floating holiday PTO per quarter and accumulate additional PTO at the rate of 1 hour for every 15 hours worked. Annually, this amounts to approximately 139 hours per year, or about 17 eight-hour days on average.</li><li>
