MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio is our newest offering for Ohio families looking for a flexible public school option. The school will serve grades 7-11 in its first year. The school aims to serve 250 students year one, with plans to grow to over 1,000 students by 2030.
We&rsquo;re seeking a passionate and resourceful Secondary Science Teacher to join our team with a start date of July 6, 2026. This is a fully remote, asynchronous teaching role that emphasizes student support, feedback, and mentorship rather than live instruction. Teachers at MOAO do not create lesson plans or deliver live classes; instead, they guide students through our self-paced curriculum, providing coaching, small-group tutoring/office hours, and in-depth feedback on summative assignments. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, all MOAO teachers also serve as Academic Advisors to a caseload of up to 30 students, building relationships and helping students meet their goals.

A Day in the Role<ul><li>
Grading and Feedback: Efficiently evaluate students' assignments for various subjects, such as middle school science, Biology, Integrated Chemistry and Physics, Physics, and Chemistry, providing comprehensive feedback to aid their learning and development.</li><li>
Office Hours/Group Tutoring: Host weekly virtual group tutoring several times per week to clarify curriculum concepts, address questions, and offer additional support for Science topics and assignments.</li><li>
Message Board: Create and maintain a message board to provide resources for students who need additional support.</li><li>
Academic Advising: Maintain a caseload of students for whom you will provide academic advising, including regular check-ins, and in some cases, targeted support plans.</li><li>
Tiered Support: Identify struggling students and, together with the Academic Counselors, proactively provide tiered support solutions to enhance their academic performance.</li><li>
Parental and Student Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for both parents and students in academic matters in your subject area, ensuring a constructive channel of communication.</li><li>

Schedule<ul><li>
MOAO Teachers are expected to have 40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis.</li><li>
A minimum of 25 hours of availability per week during school hours, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm in the Eastern time zone is required to accommodate office hours, staff collaboration, and student communication.</li><li>
An additional 15 hours per week may occur outside of school hours for activities like grading and lesson planning.</li></ul>
Requirements<ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Science, Secondary Education, or related field</li><li>
Ohio teaching certification or the ability to obtain it</li><li>
At least 3 years of full-time experience teaching high school science in the United States, including Chemistry and/or Physics.</li><li>
Professional experience supporting students in secondary education within the last 5 years</li><li>
Strong written and verbal communication skills</li><li>
Ability to work independently in a remote setting</li><li>
Excellent organizational and multitasking skills</li><li>
Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly, such as gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, and Google Workspace</li><li>
Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sector</li><li>
Currently living in Ohio, within 25 miles of Ohio, or willing to relocate to Ohio</li></ul>

Compensation &amp; Benefits<ul><li>
The expected starting pay range is $31 - $34 per hour. Teachers at MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio work an average of 40 hours per week. When working year round, this can equate to an annual pay range of $64,480 - $70,720.<ul><li>
Note: Hours worked over 40 hours will be paid at a rate of 1.5 times the regular hourly rate.</li></ul></li><li>
Miaplaza&rsquo;s compensation philosophy ensures equity and competitiveness while considering the regional differences in labor costs. Specific rates will be provided during the hiring process and are aligned with market data and internal equity.</li><li>
Compensation is evaluated twice per year, based on performance. MOAO Teachers' compensation is first and foremost determined by performance and impact.</li><li>
Full-time employees are eligible for health, dental, and vision insurance, inclusive of specialty care options like fertility benefits, mental health services, and chiropractic care, FSA, HSA, and more.</li><li>
All employees are eligible for a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.</li><li>
PTO is all-purpose time off, and combines traditional vacation and paid sick leave plans into one flexible, inclusive policy. Eligible employees can use PTO for all kinds of absences including: vacation, holidays, illness, injury, family leave, and other personal business. Full-time Employees receive 16 hours of floating holiday PTO per quarter and accumulate additional PTO at the rate of 1 hour per every 15 hours worked.
