Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for the overall management of the accounting function, including financial reporting, regulatory filings, internal controls, and accounting operations. This position ensures the timely and accurate delivery of financial information to management, auditors, and regulatory bodies in compliance with NAIC statutory accounting principles.

The Controller will lead and develop the accounting team, oversee the financial close process, and maintain effective internal controls. This role works closely with the CFO and cross-functional departments to support financial planning, reporting accuracy, and ongoing process improvement. 


Key Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles.</li>
<li>Lead the preparation and filing of statutory reports, including the Annual Statement, Risk-Based Capital report, and Management Discussion &amp; Analysis.</li>
<li>Manage the monthly and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.</li>
<li>Oversee general ledger activity, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial data integrity.</li>
<li>Review and approve accounting for premiums, losses, reinsurance transactions, and investments.</li>
<li>Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.</li>
<li>Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory examiners, including managing audit and examination processes.</li>
<li>Monitor changes in accounting standards and insurance regulations and assess their impact on financial reporting.</li>
<li>Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including assigning work, reviewing performance, and supporting professional growth.</li>
<li>Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.</li>
<li>Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis in collaboration with finance leadership.</li>
<li>Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of accounting operations.</li>
<li>Collaborate with underwriting, claims, and other departments to ensure accuracy of financial data and reporting.</li></ul> 


Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in accounting or finance required.</li>
<li>CPA designation strongly preferred.</li>
<li>7+ years of general accounting experience.</li>
<li>Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting staff.</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of NAIC statutory accounting principles and regulatory reporting.</li>
<li>Experience overseeing financial close processes, general ledger, and internal controls.</li>
<li>Experience in the Property and Casualty Insurance industry preferred.</li>
<li>Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.</li></ul></div>
