The schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 3:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
The listed hiring range for this position is $32.16 - $35.45 Hourly

How You Will Make an Impact<ul><li>
Supervise and provide work direction for Airport Deputy Sheriff Security Officers. Develop and manage shift schedule. Complete employee performance evaluations, provide feedback to staff, and complete and submit employee timesheets. Assist in disciplinary proceedings. Assist in interviewing and hiring new employees. Keep supervisors and essential personnel advised of security incidents.</li><li>
Ensure compliance with laws, policy, guidelines, and procedures. Inspect employee uniforms and equipment. Ensure officers complete accurate written reports. Identify and arrange necessary training opportunities.</li><li>
Coordinate security compliance activities including access point alarm checks, alarm response, proper display of airport identification information, and random identification checks.</li><li>
Collaborate with the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, law enforcement agencies, and airport tenants and stakeholders to ensure a secure environment.</li><li>
Provide certified law enforcement protection and security for the general public by maintaining an observable and accessible presence at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.</li><li>
Provide law enforcement support to the airlines, vendors, tenants, passengers, and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) passenger screening operations. Perform armed foot patrol inside the airport.</li><li>
Identify illegal or suspicious activities. Identify individuals loitering or observing screening checkpoint security procedures. Exercise appropriate use of force to neutralize disorderly and/or intoxicated subjects causing disturbances. Respond to incidents and emergency situations. Mediate disputes. Initiate arrests as necessary. Conduct investigations. Interview victims and witnesses. Gather evidence.</li><li>
Question and, when necessary, apprehend passengers possessing weapons or improvised explosive devices at the Screening Checkpoint.</li><li>
Verify identification of all armed law enforcement officers and Federal Flight Deck Officers who are flying in the performance of their duties.</li><li>
Respond to questions, complaints, and requests for information and/or assistance from the public.</li><li>
Complete and maintain accurate records and reports concerning crimes, incidents, information, etc. Provide testimony when required.</li></ul>
What You Need to Succeed in this Role
High school diploma or GED and one year of relevant work experience. A current South Dakota Law Enforcement Certification. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be a minimum of age 21 at the time of hiring. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record with Minnehaha County. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process. Must maintain ability to be a credible witness in court. Ability to apply the policies and procedures of law enforcement operations, to make appropriate decisions quickly, and to act with tact and impartiality. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies, and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
Supervisory experience and/or experience working in a similar environment is preferred. Knowledge of civil laws, basic computer skills, and good interpersonal skills are preferred.
