TITLE School Psychologist 
REPORTS TO Director of Student Services 
POSITION SUMMARY
The school psychologist, under direction is to evaluate the needs of average, gifted, disabled, and emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children in an educational setting: to perform psychoeducational assessments to determine appropriate programs and instructional processes to enable students to achieve maximum achievement and adjustment; to assist students in understanding and seeking solutions to social, emotional, or academic problems and issues; to serve as a resource pertaining to student behavior management and learning strategies, welfare and other issues related to the special education program; and to do other related functions as directed.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Certification Requirement
Possession of a valid Washington state credential authorizing service as a School Psychologist. 
Experience:
Two years of successful school psychologist experience; classroom teaching or counseling at the elementary or secondary school level is desirable. 
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of an earned Master of Arts or higher degree in psychology, counseling and guidance, or a closely related field.

Current academic knowledge in subject area</li><li>
Assessment and evaluation techniques including psychometric procedures</li><li>
Current laws, regulations and issues surrounding confidential records and student information</li><li>
Current research and best practices in medical and psychology fields pertaining to special education</li><li>
Discipline rules and regulations as defined by the federal and state rules and regulations including IDEA 97</li><li>
Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP) related to student discipline and Individual Educational Programs (IEP)</li><li>
Curriculum and instruction programs proven to be beneficial to pupils with special learning needs</li><li>
Social, emotional, and behavioral characteristics of pre-school and school age students</li></ul>
Skills and Abilities:<ul><li>
Provide feedback to staff and parents regarding the testing timelines, results, and interpretation of observations and data collection</li><li>
Conduct, analyze, and effectively utilize a variety of assessment tools and techniques applicable to the student with learning, behavioral, neurological, emotional and other disabilities</li><li>
Utilize appropriate psychological and psychometric techniques to effectively assess students and aid them and their parents in analyzing and developing alternative solutions to behavioral, educational, social, and emotional problems and concerns</li><li>
Incorporate information from testing, observations, parents, agencies, and other participants from the evaluation team, in developing programs, services, and plans of action for individual students</li><li>
Effectively communicate orally and in writing with students, parents, staff and community</li><li>
Maintain records and prepare reports and assessment documentation to meet legal and procedural requirements</li><li>
Ensure that parents, students (as appropriate) and staff receive appropriate notifications and documents as required by federal and state guidelines and district procedures</li><li>
Coordinate and facilitate site Evaluation Team Meetings (EMT) as directed by the principal</li><li>
Plan for continuing evaluation and reassessment of students&rsquo; progress in special education</li><li>
Organize services and facilitate the transfer process of special education students, who enroll in the district throughout the school year and/or move to another school within the district</li><li>
Develop effective and positive working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administrators, specialists, and outside agencies</li><li>
Meet professional responsibilities in a punctual and reliable manner</li></ul>
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES<ul><li>
Perform a variety of psychological, behavioral, social, physical, and emotional educational assessments to aid in diagnosis of specific learning, emotional and behavioral disabilities.</li><li>
Prepare recommendations for the development, implementation, and monitoring of individual education programs pertaining to student remediation and placement in special programs,</li><li>
Participate as a collaborative member of the site evaluation team and other staff members to assist in planning and implementing the most effective education program/services for students</li><li>
Interpret assessment and evaluation data from the evaluation team and outside agencies to students as appropriate, parents, and staff</li><li>
Collaborate with other service providers and parents in providing programs services for students</li><li>
Consult with parents to further their understanding of the learning and/or emotional disability processes pertaining to their child</li><li>
Participate in long range planning with staff and administrators to maintain a high level of psychological services and meet compliance regulations</li><li>
As requested attend professional conferences and in-services as appropriate to students served</li><li>
Collaborate with colleagues to evaluate total program effectiveness</li></ul>
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. 
This is a sedentary position with light work that involves sitting a portion of the time, but does require walking and standing for extended periods. This position requires accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception; handling and working with educational and psychological materials; and providing highly technical oral and written information and reports. 
The job is performed with the majority of the time spent indoors and under minimal temperature variations, a portion of the day will be time spent outdoors and is subject to a variety of changing weather conditions and potentially uneven/slippery surfaces.

EVALUATION PROCEDURES
This position is that of school psychologist and is represented by the Monroe Education Association collective bargaining unit. The School Psychologist shall be evaluated by the Director of Student Services according to currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include an evaluation of the employee&rsquo;s performance of the above position responsibilities.</div>
