<div>Morgan, Lewis &amp; Bockius LLP, one of the world&rsquo;s leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Patent Agent to join their award-winning Intellectual Property Practice Group and be responsible for preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (&ldquo;USPTO&rdquo;).
This position will reside in the Washington, D.C office and offers a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule. This position will be supervised by an intellectual property partner, but will have daily contact with, and will receive guidance from, all the partners in the practice group for whom this individual provides support. The Patent Agent will work to protect inventions in a manner that is consistent with his/her technical merit, while assuming significant client responsibilities and providing high quality legal services to domestic and foreign clients.
Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Perform patent searching and investigate inventorship issues
</li><li>Manage the intake of invention disclosures and review disclosures for patentability, novelty, and non-obviousness
</li><li>Evaluate qualification and applicability of prior art
</li><li>Study and analyze scientific or technical documents, including previously published patent documents, to assess patentability, novelty and inventiveness
</li><li>Draft new patent applications; act as a second reviewer for filings; manage the processing of e-File filings
</li><li>Convert prior provisional applications into utility applications, foreign filed applications into U.S. applications and U.S. applications into foreign applications
</li><li>Prepare replies to U.S. and foreign office actions
</li><li>Assist attorneys with prosecution; identify alternative prosecution scenarios and claim strategies to develop patent portfolios
</li><li>Conduct interviews with USPTO examiners; prepare appeals to PTAB and clearance analyses
</li><li>Prepare reexamination petitions, reissue applications, and IPR and CBM petitions
</li><li>Prepare substantive client correspondence
</li><li>Meet with clients to discuss inventions and ascertain whether the inventions are likely to lead to commercially meaningful patent claims
</li><li>Provide patent prosecution training
</li></ul>Education &amp; experience:
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s (or Graduate) degree, preferably in electrical engineering
</li><li>Fluency in Japanese, strongly preferred
</li><li>Minimum 1 year of directly relevant experience
</li><li>Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or eligible to sit for the USPTO patent agent exam
</li><li>Knowledge of Japanese patent practices, preferred.
</li><li>Excellent writing and research abilities are a must, as well as proficiency in written and verbal communication, and strong organizational skills

The Administrative Support Manager will be responsible for providing lawyers, clients and other legal personnel with highly skilled client-service focused support by managing the administrative support staff and related functions in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
This position will reside in our Los Angeles and Century City offices r equiring travel between the two locations. It follows a hybrid in-office/remote work schedule, depending on business needs.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
<ul><li>Develops and implements staffing plans; manages administrative support assignments.
</li><li>Works with office management and practice group leaders to develop staffing configurations consistent with workflow and support requirements of practice group and office.
</li><li>Oversee administrative support staffing, schedules, and desk coverage to ensure efficient operations and proper coverage during evenings, weekends, and major projects.
</li><li>Manages the annual performance review process for the Administrative Support Staff, including evaluations, goal setting, compensation recommendations, and alignment with Firm performance standards.
</li><li>Conducts regular one-on-one check-ins and team meetings, focusing on training needs, employee morale, and professional development opportunities.
</li><li>Reviews and approves administrative support vacation requests to ensure adequate coverage.
</li><li>Ensures administrative support staff have the training and information necessary to support their assignments.
</li><li>Collaborates with Talent Acquisition on the full candidate selection process, including resume review, interview coordination, participation in interviews and offer approvals.
</li><li>Engages temporary staff as needed; processes and approves related invoices; monitors expenses.
</li><li>Monitors administrative support ratios; in partnership with Office Manager, works to ensure compliance with Firm&rsquo;s ratio targets.
</li><li>Ensures coverage for after hours and weekend work, closings, off-site assistance for trial support and special projects as requested.
</li><li>Works with practice group leaders on office logistics to provide the most effective support for attorneys while maximizing use of administrative support staff.
</li><li>Oversight of notary certifications and compliance to ensure notaries are current on licenses and payment requests are approved.
</li><li>Oversight and execution of employee events and activities related to the support teams and other groups, as assigned.
</li><li>Leads by example; establishes clear expectations; sets direction and priorities; ensures that work levels are balanced among all staff; resolves internal staff issues in a timely manner; keeps staff informed of all appropriate information; builds effective team; delegates at appropriate level.
</li><li>Facilitates the development of staff by providing opportunities and support; provides timely feedback on work product; regularly coaches, evaluates, and recognizes staff performance and accomplishments.
</li><li>Establishes/adheres to Department budget; seeks opportunities to improve Department efficiency and reduce expenses by streamlining operations.
</li><li>Ensure efficient vendor management by verifying invoices are correctly coded and processed for on-time payments.
</li></ul>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university, and seven (7) years of progressively responsible, directly related experience in a leadership role with at least three years in a supervisory role or equivalent combination of education and experience.

For positions in Los Angeles, CA, and Century City, CA the salary range for this job posting is: $119,200 - $190,675
The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
