</div><div><b>Purpose:</b><b> </b>The purpose of this position is to lead genomic epidemiology training and workforce development efforts based out of the Genomics Section at the MDHHS Bureau of Laboratories. Primary responsibilities include identifying and addressing genomic epidemiology training needs and, in collaboration with other subject matter experts within the Genomics Section, assembling and developing training materials and events for various stakeholders within Michigan and the Midwest region. The individual in this position will also work closely with state and federal partners to shape national genomic epidemiology workforce development activities and strategy. In addition to these training lead responsibilities, this individual will support other genomic epidemiology activities within the section as needed, including compiling and analyzing data outputs from whole genome sequencing (WGS) to support genomic surveillance and outbreak/cluster identification for pathogens of public health importance.</div><br>

</div><h1 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Duties</b><b> </b><b>and Responsibilities:</b></h1>
<ul><li>Administer and summarize genomic epidemiology training needs assessments to inform training priorities and development for the Midwest region.</li>
<li>Plan, and in collaboration with other subject matter experts within the Genomics Section, develop genomic epidemiology trainings. Throughout this process, identify the scope, audiences, and timelines for completion.</li>
<li>Coordinate or co-coordinate all aspects of hosting genomic epidemiology training sessions or workshops, including site selection, approvals, budgeting, program development and evaluation, speaker agreements, registration, on-site logistics, and travel and housing arrangements.
</li><li>Evaluate the impact of training offerings and summarize findings to share with management and external partners.
</li><li>Host or co-host calls and listservs pertaining to genomic epidemiology training development.
</li><li>Maintain relationships with state, federal, and academic partners involved in public health workforce development for genomic epidemiology.
</li><li>Share summaries of projects and assessments via scientific publications and/or presentations.</li>
<li>Gather, clean, and compile genomic and epidemiological data outputs to support outbreak investigations and surveillance as needed.</li>
<li>Provide assistance and insight for investigative work to develop improved analyses methodologies or services, as well as provide data for Department approved public health surveillance and research activities as needed.</li>
<li>Perform other work-related duties as required by management.</li>

Education: </b>MS or MPH or PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, Microbiology, Biostatistics, or a field related to the requirements of the position.</div>

Experience: </b>12 months of experience within the field of infectious disease or public health. Experience with developing science/health communication materials for different technical backgrounds preferred.</div>

Purpose:</b><b> </b>This position functions as a professional to support state and local public health officials, syringe service programs, and other stakeholders in the review, analysis, and development of harm reduction programs and services across the state of Michigan. Specifically, the Harm Reduction Analyst is tasked with increasing syringe access capacity in Michigan, as well as supporting statewide harm reduction efforts. This includes, but is not limited to, providing direction and technical assistance to stakeholders and grantees, identifying resources for program implementation, assisting with community education, and coordinating data collection, program evaluation, program monitoring, and progress reporting to grantors. This position will also have a specialized focus in engaging with populations disproportionately impacted by the opioid crisis.</div><br>

<ul><li>Establishes contacts and meets with public, private, and community-based agencies to assist in the expansion and implementation of harm reduction. programs and procedures, as well as supports existing harm reduction agencies.
</li><li>Support harm reduction agencies which includes, but is not limited to:</li>
<ul><li>Conduct standard scheduled check-in calls.
</li><li>Provide technical assistance and support on implementation and reporting.
</li><li>Conduct bi-annual in-person site visits.
</li><li>Fulfill supply order requests.
</li></ul><li>Works with other harm reduction analysts to facilitate collaborations among partners statewide to improve health in a community.</li>
<li>Consults with and provides technical assistance to state and local program administrators, legislators, the media, and other interested parties regarding harm reduction.</li>
<li>Designs and implements health education and training programs for public and private health agencies and personnel to improve population health.</li>
<li>Develops educational materials, newsletters, reports, and media to enhance public awareness regarding harm reduction programs.</li>
<li>Develops criteria for and supports on-site reviews of syringe service programs to collect and analyze information necessary to evaluate harm reduction efforts.</li>
<li>Assist in the completion of applications and progress reports for grants supporting harm reduction activities.</li>
<li>Ensures that health dignity of individuals and populations is addressed in policies, programs, and services that affect the health of a community.</li>

Education: </b>Possession of a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in public health, health communication, health policy, or a public health-related field such as nursing, epidemiology, health education, social work, public or business administration with a health care concentration. Prefer candidates with a master&rsquo;s degree in one of these areas. Will consider candidates with a combination of education and experience as it relates to the duties and responsibilities of the position.</div>

Experience: </b>A minimum of 1 year working in a public health, healthcare, or health education role at an agency such as a local, state, or federal health department, a community-based organization, or health system. Personal or professional experience with populations who use or inject substances is desired.</div>
