Muckleshoot Indian Tribe

The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe is dedicated to serving its people and protecting natural resources. Established in 1857, the Tribe is recognized as a successor to the Duwamish and Upper Puyallup bands.  Under general supervision, teaches and instructs pupils in culturally appropriate academic, social, behavioral and other educational skill areas; counsels, disciplines and supervises to meet the individual needs of assigned students; evaluates student performance and progress as required for state and federal accountability.

   Actively participates in learning the Muckleshoot culture, language, customs and traditions so that as a teacher you are able to support the goals and objective of the Muckleshoot Indian for the Muckleshoot Tribal School.

   Plans an instructional program designed to meet individual student needs /interests and whole groups that may include at risk or special needs students, prepares lesson plans that align with state standards in each of the areas assigned to teach.
  </li>

   Implements established programs and collaborates with staff &amp; Muckleshoot community in the development of new culturally appropriate programs with curriculum objectives/goals aligned with state standards and the vision for the Muckleshoot Tribal School.
  </li>
  <li>
   Establishes and implements reasonable and culturally appropriate classroom rules and procedures governing student behavior and conduct; provides guidance, counseling and discipline to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct; monitors student learning and behavior regularly and seeks Administrative assistance where appropriate.
  </li>
  <li>
   Confers with students, parents/guardians and other staff to provide guidance and evaluation and to encourage student achievement and/or to modify assignments or expectations when appropriate.
  </li>
  <li>
   Creates a classroom the is conducive to learning and establishes classroom goals/objectives in conformance with courses of study specified by State and Tribal School regulations and guidelines; evaluates and records student progress; prepares reports for parents/guardians.
  </li>

   Collects and interprets a variety of data; provides reports for administrative purposes and in order to prepare for state testing and compliance for state and federal accountability.
  </li>
  <li>
   Understands and meets the responsibilities of teaching in culturally appropriate ways to enhance and support Muckleshoot &amp; Native American students toward success in a school setting.
  </li>
  <li>
   Maintain up to date daily schedule, lessons plans, attendance records and grade records both electronically and in written format for all students that are assigned and for all subjects assigned to teach.

   Attends or participates in required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary.
  </li>
  <li>
   Directs the activities of assigned non-certified personnel, para-professionals and volunteers.
  </li>
  <li>
   Attends and actively participates in required staff meetings and other activities including serving on at least 1 committee as deemed necessary.
  </li>

   Prepares substitute plans that include projects, schedule, routines, class list, attendance forms and other needed resources that are readily accessible in your absence.

   Actively maintain parent contact through newsletters, phone calls home, field trips, parent involvement in the classroom, awards, conferences, home visits, email, mailings, school and community events in order to create a strong bond with the community.

<div>JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the daily operations of the Court Clerk&rsquo;s Office, including: overseeing the maintenance of all case files, dealing with the public, in-court clerk duties, and ensuring that all cases efficiently flow through the judicial system.</div>
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
<div>

Performs general office duties, including answering phones, greeting court patrons, filing, data entry and other clerical duties and responsibilities.</li><li>
Provides clerical support to the Court Administrator, Judge and presenting officer/prosecutor as requested and necessary. Drafts documents for the Judge as directed.</li><li>
Maintains courtroom so that it is clean, presentable and safe.</li><li>
Maintains all court files.</li><li>
Receives and post daily mail in a timely manner.</li><li>
Provides necessary paperwork for court customers.</li><li>
Coordinates with Finance department for receiving fines and fees paid into the registry of the Tribal Court.</li><li>
Attends and records assigned hearings and performs required in-court clerk functions; including assisting judges perform their in-court duties.</li><li>
Creates archive list for closed court files. Sends and retrieves files to and from archives.</li><li>
Gathers and keeps yearly case statistics as assigned by the Court Administrator.</li><li>
Oversees the scheduling and tracking of all cases in the Court, maintaining court dockets, and court calendars.</li><li>
Carries out procedures for convening the Muckleshoot Court of Appeals.</li><li>
Ensures the proper transcription of trial court proceedings for use by the Court of Appeals.</li><li>
Applies and adheres to the Muckleshoot Code of Laws as well as the rules and procedures of the Tribal Court.</li><li>
Provides information and relevant documents to patrons of the court as requested and appropriate.</li><li>
Maintains and updates the Muckleshoot Code of Laws as changes are made. Provides copies to spokespersons, patrons and/or departments as appropriate.</li><li>

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION:

High school diploma or equivalent <i>and </i>two years related work experience in a legal setting. Two years of college coursework may be substituted for the two years of experience. Current and valid Washington State Driver&rsquo;s license</div>
SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

Knowledge</i></b><b>:</b> Current office practices and procedures and basic arithmetic. Knowledge of tribal codes and resolutions, civil and juvenile court procedures and judicial terminology.</div><div><br>
</div><div><b><i>Skills:</i></b> Operation of office equipment, including computers and appropriate software (MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, and court databases), typing/keyboarding (minimum 50 wpm with accuracy). Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. <i>Abilities:</i> Demonstrated ability to write legibly, using proper grammar, punctuation and spelling. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to maintain professionalism. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
