<div>NHPR is looking for a managing editor to oversee our flagship daily news magazines, Morning Edition and All Things Considered, and help guide the evolution of the magazines to serve our multiplatform audience strategy. We want someone with a proven track record of leading the production of ambitious, compelling broadcast journalism, including interviews, breaking news coverage, reported field pieces, and other segments. Our ideal candidate will have a strong vision for redefining local audio journalism to reach, inform, and entertain new audiences. This person will be a leader in our newsroom, working across teams to inspire effective collaboration. They will manage a four-person team of two hosts and two producers. This editor will also play a key role for our newsroom in spotting and developing talent as they lead our hiring processes.
This is a full-time, exempt, onsite role based in Concord, New Hampshire, reporting to our News Director. The budgeted salary range is $89,300 - $99,000 depending on qualifications. We also consider internal equity, among other factors, when deciding compensation.
Essential Duties Include:<ul><li>
Oversee all editorial aspects of NHPR's morning and afternoon weekday news magazines.</li><li>
Manage a team of hosts, producers, interns and fellows, including training, goal setting, performance management, professional mentorship, and editorial guidance.</li><li>
Serve as lead editor on stories, interviews, and other broadcast segments from pitch through final draft.</li><li>
Guarantee the on-time, flawless delivery of audio to multiple platforms.</li><li>
Manage live and/or remote broadcasts, including election night, live debates and forums, and other special programming.</li><li>
Serve as the NHPR newsroom's lead on assorted administrative tasks, including hiring, onboarding and scheduling.</li></ul> 
Other Responsibilities Include: 
<ul><li>
Oversee and/or collaborate on special projects and series as appropriate.</li><li>
Participate in and lead group pitch meetings, storyboards, and edits.</li><li>
Work closely with our digital and audience teams to translate our audio segments to engaging stories for digital and social platforms.</li><li>
Partner with the News Director on improving workflows, professional development and other operational leadership tasks in the newsroom.</li><li>
As needed, participate in station fundraising activities.</li></ul>
Qualifications:<ul><li>
Seven to ten years of experience in audio journalism, including reporting, producing and/or editing for broadcast.</li><li>
Three to five years leading and managing a team and inspiring them to produce their best work.</li><li>
Excellent editorial judgment and attention to detail.</li><li>
Ability to train less experienced staff and to challenge staff with more experience.
</li><li>Strong project management skills.</li><li>
B.A. in relevant field or equivalent work experience.</li></ul>
