Your Role as a Special Education Teacher
<ul>
<li>Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies &ndash; Activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.</li>
<li>Develop and implement lesson plans &ndash; Fulfills the requirements of The Learning Spectrum curriculum program and shows written evidence of preparation as required.</li>
<li>Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff &ndash; Develop, supervise, and implement the IEP process for each student assigned.</li>
<li>Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits &ndash; By grading and providing feedback to students' work.</li>
<li>Evaluate the current strategies and interventions for referred students &ndash; Modify or develop appropriate behavior and/or educational interventions and strategies using information from the IEP, Functional Behavior Assessment, direct observation, school input, and other sources.</li>
<li>Create a classroom environment conducive to learning &ndash; Appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.</li>
</ul>
Required Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree required.</li>
<li>Flexible, positive attitude toward students with disabilities.</li>
<li>Competency with a variety of instructional strategies for individualized learning and behavioral intervention strategies.</li>
<li>Knowledge of research-based interventions for students with autism spectrum disorder including structured teaching, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and relationship-based interventions.</li>
