The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Utility Project Engineer. Responsible for planning, design, and construction supervision of new development, capital, and in-house projects for water and wastewater utilities and providing engineering expertise and support for Operations as needed. In addition to providing independent, professional engineering expertise and knowledge for utilities; will provide project management, business analysis and regulatory support for the operation of the facilities necessary for the production,
Work Location and Schedule
This position will be primarily based at our office in Charlotte, NC .
What You'll Do
<ul><li>Creates and/or reviews engineer designs and plans and specifications for water production, water distribution, wastewater collections, water and wastewater treatment processes and systems.
</li><li>Evaluate project proposals and utility work designs and provide stamp or seal of approval for engineering designs as the Professional Engineer.
</li><li>Independently exercise sound professional judgement in the development of design criteria, selecting suitable processes, materials, and other aspects related to utility operations and capital project execution.
</li><li>Engages with regulatory agencies, other utility operators and technical personnel as needed to facilitate continuing utility operations and capital project execution.
</li><li>Prepares engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
</li><li>Conducts engineering review of new development plans and specifications.
</li><li>Provides Project Engineering Oversight for several mid-sized or larger utility projects on an ongoing basis.
</li><li>Selects and specifies materials, technologies and equipment for projects.
</li><li>Works with internal and/or external Project Management teams to develop processes and procedures standards for project delivery
</li><li>Works with the project team to hire and oversee external contractors or consultants based on capital project needs.
</li><li>Performs inspections to ensure that the construction of the utility projects follow the design documents and design intentions; occasionally performs testing.
</li><li>Works with internal and external construction resources to coordinate construction of the engineering plans, communicating project schedule and tasks.
</li><li>Acts as designated project manager to lead and manage projects on an as-needed basis.
</li><li>Acts as construction superintendent on an as-needed basis to ensure project controls are in place and procedures are executed safely and properly according to requirements.
</li><li>Coordinates with internal and/or external project teams in response to capital project challenges to review and approve change order and cost proposals, modifying ongoing projects as required.
</li><li>Plans for and reviews updates to construction and engineering standards.
</li><li>Conducts hydraulic system analysis including usage of and updates to water distribution computer model.
</li><li>Conducts on-site inspections and troubleshooting.
</li><li>Responds to service requests and acts as a technical resource and engineering subject matter expert for Business Development, Project Management, Operations and the Business Unit
</li><li>Assists in the preparation of an effective master plan and/or timely system improvement and replacement program.

</li></ul>What You'll Bring
Experience
<ul><li>1 - 3 years&rsquo; Project Management experience
</li><li>At least 2 years of work experience as a Professional Engineer, preferably in a water and wastewater utility or engineering services company.
</li></ul>Education, Licenses and Certifications
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Engineering, preferably Civil, Mechanical or Environmental Engineering
</li><li>Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure.
</li><li>Maintain a valid driver's license
</li></ul>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

</li><li>Ability to perform physical duties such as occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs unassisted, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time: occasionally climbing, pulling, kneeling, twisting, turning, stooping, reaching, and bending. This may include extended driving periods of up to several hours.

Responsible for planning, design, and construction supervision of capital and in-house projects for water and wastewater utilities and providing engineering expertise and support for Operations as needed. In addition to providing independent, professional engineering expertise and knowledge for utilities; will provide project management, business analysis and regulatory support for the operation of the facilities necessary for the treatment and distribution of water as well as the collection, treatment, and discharge of wastewater.

What You'll Do
<ul><li>Perform project scope alternative analysis to determine the best solution in developing a business case.
</li><li>Create engineer standards, designs, and plans for water production, water distribution, wastewater collections, water and wastewater treatment processes and systems.
</li><li>Evaluate project proposals and utility work designs and provide stamp or seal of approval for engineering designs as the Professional Engineer.
</li><li>Independently exercise sound professional judgement in the development of design criteria, selecting suitable processes, materials, and other aspects related to utility operations and capital project execution.
</li><li>Engaging with regulatory agencies, other utility operators and technical personnel as needed to facilitate continuing utility operations and capital project execution.
</li><li>Develops business cases for engineering projects by performing alternative analyses including scope, cost, and schedule according to best practices.
</li><li>Prepares engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
</li><li>Oversees several mid-sized or larger utility projects on an ongoing basis.
</li><li>Selects and specifies materials and equipment for projects.
</li><li>Determines when an external consultant engineer or contractor is required. Hires and oversees external contractors or consultants based on capital project needs.
</li><li>Performs inspections to ensure that the construction of the utility projects follow the design documents, and the design intentions are being met; occasionally performs testing.
</li><li>Works with Field Operations to coordinate construction of the engineering plans, communicating project schedule and tasks.
</li><li>Routinely designated as the project manager to lead and manage projects.
</li><li>Routinely acts as construction superintendent to ensure industrial controls are in place and procedures are executed safely and properly according to requirements.
</li><li>Approves change order and cost proposals to modify parts of an ongoing capital works projects in response to an identified issue.
</li><li>Plans for and reviews updates to engineering and construction standards.
</li><li>Hydraulic system analysis including use of and update of water distribution computer model.
</li><li>Conducts field inspections and troubleshoot project issues on site.
</li><li>Service requests for technical assistance from operations.
