Summary of Duties: 
Provides activities of daily living and other specified patient care procedures for the adult and geriatric patient.
 
Essential Job Functions: 
<ul>
<li>Provides for patient’s activities of daily living with either total or partial assistance as directed by patient condition:</li>
<li>Bath or shower</li>
<li>Oral and/or denture care</li>
<li>Perineal care</li>
<li>Turning and repositioning every two hours or greater as indicated by patient need</li>
<li>Ambulation</li>
<li>Meal Assistance</li>
<li>Performs indirect patient care tasks and unit functions: including but not limited to:</li>
<li>Answers call lights and relays information promptly to the nurses</li>
<li>Runs errands to obtain medications, supplies, etc.</li>
<li>Transports specimens</li>
<li>Inventories supplies; compiles list of needed supplies</li>
<li>Stocks supplies and patient meds when delivered to facility</li>
<li>Discharge preparation (packing personal items, transports patient, etc.)</li>
<li>Cleans and maintains unit and patient equipment</li>
<li>Assists patients with elimination needs</li>
<li>Performs simple range of motion</li>
<li>Performs finger stick blood glucose test</li>
<li>Performs intake and output measurements (oral, IV, NG, drains, etc.)</li>
<li>Performs vital sign measurements</li>
<li>Obtains 12 lead EKGs</li>
<li>Assists physicians and nurses with special procedures</li>
<li>Assists with stocking of supplies and assesses inventory needs for medical and general supplies in coordination with the Administrative Secretary/ Materiels Management Coordinator and/or other management staff, and following hospital purchasing protocols</li>
<li>Cleans and stores dirty hospital equipment for future patient use</li>
<li>Performs other duties as assigned</li>
</ul>
Education: 
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
 
Experience: 
Minimum of one year of patient care experience required.
 
Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions: 
<ul>
<li>Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally, 20 lbs. frequently, and 10 lbs. constantly.</li>
<li>Ability to walk and stand 80% of an 8 to 12 hour shift.</li>
<li>Ability to push/pull up to 200 lbs. in order to position patients, move beds, carts, etc., and aid patients in ambulation.</li>
<li>Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.</li>

Patient Care Technician - Full Time

Summary of Duties: 
Administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system, under supervision of physician and by prescription.
 
Essential Job Functions: 
<ul>
<li>Organizes work schedule and schedules respiratory care for inpatients as ordered.</li>
<li>Takes verbal orders from physicians regarding respiratory therapy treatment.</li>
<li>Consults with physician in event of adverse reactions.</li>
<li>Delivers CPT and breathing exercises.</li>
<li>Performs sputum induction, NT suction, endotracheal suction, tracheostomy care, and monitors patients on continuous ventilation as prescribed by physician’s orders according to established procedures.</li>
<li>Performs pre and post analytical phases of the I-STAT blood gas procedures.</li>
<li>Reads prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment, such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosages.</li>
<li>Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with physician’s orders.</li>
<li>Sets up and operates devices, such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration per apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.</li>
<li>Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment, such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients.</li>
<li>Monitors patient’s physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes.</li>
<li>Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy.</li>
<li>Inspects, tests, and cleans respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.</li>
<li>Orders repairs when needed.</li>
<li>Maintains proper working order of I-STAT machine by performing QC as required and reporting all errors or failures to supervisor.</li>
<li>Acts in conjunction with supervisors to provide technical and clinical consultation to physicians, nurses, students, and Respiratory Therapy staff.</li>
<li>Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel.</li>
<li>Documents in patient’s medical record pertinent identification and therapy information.</li>
<li>Assists in transport of critically ill patients for diagnostic testing.</li>
</ul>
Education: 
Graduate of an American Medical Association approved Respiratory Therapist Program and CRT/RRT credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Must have current Alabama Respiratory Therapy license.
 
Experience: 
Minimum of two (2) years experience preferred.
 
Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions: 
<ul>
<li>Must be able to transport and/or lift an object intermittently throughout the work day up to a maximum of 20 pounds.</li>
<li>Must be able to walk, stand, and work for extended periods of time without relief.</li>
<li>Must possess dexterity of arms, hands, and fingers bilaterally.</li>
<li>Must be able to work with hands for up to 12 hours a day.</li>
<li>Must be able to push/pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds.</li>
<li>Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of this position can be fully met.</li>

Respiratory Therapist - PRN

Summary of Duties: 
Prepare food in accordance with posted menus and from standard recipes for residents and guests of the Community in accordance with current, applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations; as well as with established Organizational policies, procedures, guidelines, and direction to ensure quality food service.
 
Essential Job Functions: 
<ul>
<li>Review menus prior to preparation of food.</li>
<li>Prepare meals in accordance with planned menus.</li>
<li>Prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance.</li>
<li>Serve food in accordance with established portion control procedures.</li>
<li>Prepare food for therapeutic diets in accordance with planned menus.</li>
<li>Prepare food in accordance with standardized recipes and special diet orders.</li>
<li>Prepare and serve bedtime snacks as requested.</li>
<li>Use proper technique to taste prepared food to ensure quality prior to service, and take corrective action if needed.</li>
<li>Maintain proper temperature of food during preparation and service.</li>
<li>Record food temperature prior to meal service, and take correction action if needed.</li>
<li>Assist in inventory and storage of food and supplies. Date stock and rotate to ensure First In, First Out (FIFO) principle is followed. Notify the supervisor if the supply is inadequate.</li>
<li>Assist in establishing food service production line, etc., to assure that meals are prepared in a timely manner.</li>
<li>Assist in processing diet changes and new orders as received to ensure all residents receive a meal as ordered.</li>
<li>Inspect meal trays to assure that the correct diet is served to each resident.</li>
<li>Follow established procedures to clean equipment and work area as needed and per policy using approved cleaning agents.</li>
<li>Ensure dietary staff tasks are completed as assigned in the absence of the supervisor. Report concerns to the supervisor.</li>
<li>Perform additional duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>
Education and Experience: 
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. A minimum of six (6) months as a cook with dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, other related medical facility, school cafeteria, or full-line cafeteria preferred. Any combination of dietary experience and training which provides for skills, knowledge and abilities is required. Must complete Serve Safe Program.
