Conveniently located in the North Bay, SRBHH serves adolescents and adults. We treat both mental health and co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse conditions.
POSITION TITLE: Lead Mental Health Technician (MHT IV)
PAY RANGE: $27.50-$32.31 Per Hour
REPORTS TO: Chief Nursing Officer
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
As with all levels of the MHW career ladder, the Lead Mental Health Worker also provides direct patient care to all patients with emotional or psychiatric disorders; supports therapeutic milieu; and ensures safety and well-being of patients. Carries out general nursing assistance necessary to treatment of adolescent, adult, or older adult patients as assigned. Additionally, the Lead Mental Health Worker maintains knowledge of, participates in further training provided, and understands the potential risks regarding occupational health hazards (e.g. bloodborne pathogen exposures) and supervises the work of the other MHWs during his/her tour of duty and assigned area(s).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:<ul><li>
Treatment Planning: Participate in treatment planning: (a) helps identify patients' problems, needs, and strengths; (b) suggests modifications to treatment plan based on observations of patients' behavior; (c) provides input into discharge planning.</li></ul><ul><li>
Patient Care: Participate in implementing patients' treatment plans by: (a) monitoring patients' progress; (b) communicating information regarding patients' behavior to other members of treatment team; (c) maintains communication with patient, family members, and referral sources in patients' interest; (d) co-facilitates didactic, educational, and community groups within the context of the adolescent treatment program; (e) encourages and facilitates patients' participation in therapeutic activities; (f) supervises patients to ensure their safety and their involvement in treatment; (g) provide input during shift report.
</li></ul><ul><li>Hall Monitor: An important role in the care of the patient includes the assignment as Hall Monitor. The Hall Monitor is responsible for the safety and security of both staff and patients. The Hall Monitor observes the interaction between patients as well as the interactions between staff and patients that occur in the hallway. The Hall Monitor must report all suspicious activity to the appropriate nurse in charge of the unit as soon as possible and also notify unit staff of potential boundary violations.
</li></ul><ul><li>Patient Attendant: Accompany and transport patients as assigned. Orient new patients to unit, program, and milieu. Assists patients in carrying out activities of daily living, when congruent with the patients' treatment plan and needs, age, and developmental level.Maintains a safe, orderly, and therapeutic physical environment for patients. Participate in maintaining the therapeutic milieu on the unit, enforces the level system or other methods of behavior management.</li></ul><ul><li>
Patient Records: Maintain patient, program, department, and related documentation. Carry out clerical and administrative assignment to support patient care and department and organization operations.</li></ul><ul><li>
Training Activities: Complete orientation and competency assessments as required for position. Participate in activities enhancing professional growth and development.</li></ul><ul><li>
Other Duties: Upholds the Organization's ethics and customer service standards. Performs related duties, as requested.</li></ul>
Lead MHW Duties:<ul><li>
In charge of their MHW team for the shift &amp; assigned unit(s)</li><li>
Double checks that all MHW documentation is completed</li><li>
Assists with teaching new employee classes and ongoing education, including code green drills</li><li>
Provides input for MHW evaluations</li><li>
Does real time coaching to peers if improvement needed</li><li>
Assigns tasks to MHW&rsquo;s for their shift (cafeteria, property room, groups)</li><li>
Ensures all patient belongings are accounted for upon discharge</li><li>
Assists nurse manager with implementation of new processes or changes to current practices</li><li>
Contributes to report at the end of the shift</li></ul> 

Requirements 
Education/Licensure<ul>
<li>High School graduate or equivalent.
</li><li>Behavioral science undergraduate degree required (Psychology, Social work, Sociology). Candidate may be considered if pursuing advanced degree in nursing or relevant field. May consider combination of relevant college coursework completion and extended relevant experience.
</li><li>Current CPR (or obtained during initial orientation period).</li>
<li>Verbal de-escalation and physical intervention program (as approved by the CNO) obtained during initial orientation period.</li>
</ul>Knowledge and Experience:
<ul><li>High school level reading and writing skills; legible handwriting</li>
<li>5+ years&rsquo; experience as behavioral health worker/technician in an inpatient and/or partial psychiatric/mental health setting with a knowledge of psychiatric/chemical dependency patient care techniques, demonstrated understanding of mental illness and related behavioral management techniques. At least two years with a Signature Hospital or a degree in relevant clinical discipline. Experience facilitating non-therapeutic patient groups. Demonstrated ability to train, onboard, and coach others.
</li><li>Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology and human behavior principles preferred</li>
<li>Basic knowledge of human growth and development helpful</li>
<li>Experience with therapeutic limit-setting helpful or an understanding of level systems or other behavior management modalities helpful</li>

Physical Requirements:
Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions. 
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 lb loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. 
Individual must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe patients on the unit and in therapeutic activities. While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside.

REPORTS TO (TITLE): Director of Clinical Services
PAY SCALE: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour (Non-exempt)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Care Coordination &amp; Discharge Planning<ul><li>
Coordinate linkage to mental health, recovery, and community services, including communication with County Liaison.</li><li>
Arrange and schedule follow up appointments, pharmacy referrals, and identify patient support persons.</li><li>
Provide placement support, assist with ID verification, and coordinate transportation as needed.</li><li>
Complete Continuing Care Plans and maintain required placement documentation.</li><li>
Ensure completion of required clinical and administrative forms in the patient record (e.g., DTF, IDT, T Con referrals, Firearms Prohibition Form, MHRS Report, JV220, 6552).</li><li>
Collaborate with inpatient therapists and interdisciplinary team members to support treatment and discharge goals.</li><li>
Provide support to hospital processes involving court related communication, including coordination with public defenders, district attorneys, and other legal partners when applicable.</li><li>
Assist with preparing and submitting required documentation for patients involved in legal proceedings, including IST related materials when assigned.</li><li>
Help track timelines and reporting requirements associated with competency evaluations or hearings as part of broader case management duties.</li><li>
Coordinate with hospital appointed counsel and external agencies to support compliance with legal processes.</li><li>
Support patient rights and respond to concerns or grievances related to care.</li></ul>
Treatment Monitoring &amp; Reporting
<ul><li>Monitor patient treatment plans and progress, including those participating in competency restoration services.</li><li>
Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers to ensure continuity of care.</li><li>
Document patient progress and provide updates to appropriate agencies, including courts or county behavioral health partners when required.</li><li>
Support patient rights advocacy throughout treatment, including during competency restoration services.</li></ul>
Records Management &amp; Compliance<ul><li>
Maintain accurate records of patient admissions, treatment, and required documentation.</li><li>
Assist with file audits to ensure compliance with state codes, departmental requirements, and hospital policy.</li><li>
Enter and track patient data in reporting systems and hospital databases, including IST related data when applicable.</li><li>
Ensure timely completion and submission of required forms and reports.</li></ul> 
Requirements 
POSITION REQUREMENTS:
Knowledge and Experience:
<ul><li>Minimum of a Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing, Criminal Justice, or closely related behavioral health field.
</li><li>One year of behavioral health experience; experience with Severely Mentally Ill populations, discharge planning, forensic services, or court processes preferred.</li><li>
Current BLS certification, or to be obtained during initial orientation period.</li><li>
Current Handle With Care (HWC) certification, or to be obtained during initial orientation period.</li><li>
Familiarity with continuum of care and clinical terminology.</li><li>
Familiarity with California Penal Code requirements for IST patients preferred.</li><li>
Experience with patient rights advocacy or legal documentation preferred.
</li></ul>Skills and Abilities:
