Job Title: Music Teacher (Winds, Percussion, and/or Strings Emphasis) 
Reports To: Program Manager or Artistic Director 
Job Type: Part-Time | Hourly | $35 DOE 
Schedule: After-school, 2&ndash;10 hours per week (Monday&ndash;Friday) 
Location: Fountain Valley &amp; surrounding Orange County schools 
Start Date: Fall 2025

The Arts &amp; Learning Conservatory (ALC) is an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to making high-quality arts education equitable and accessible to all children, regardless of socioeconomic background. Since 2004, ALC has reached over 30,000 students across Southern California through after-school theatre, music, and technical arts programs. 
 
Position Overview 
 
We are seeking skilled and passionate Music Teachers with experience in winds, brass, percussion, and/or string instruction to lead engaging after-school programs for elementary students (Grades 3&ndash;8). The ideal candidate will have a strong musical background, the ability to teach multiple instruments, and a commitment to nurturing students of all levels. Candidates will prepare students for school-based performances, teach foundational music concepts, and manage group instruction in diverse classroom settings. 
 
Key Responsibilities 
 
<ul><li>Teach and manage after-school music-focused classes with emphasis in:</li></ul><ul>
<li>
Winds/Brass: Flute, Clarinet, Alto saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone</li>
<li>Percussion: Snare, Bells, Accesory percussion</li>
<li>Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello</li>
</ul><ul><li>Instruct students on instrument handling, sound production, note reading, rhythm, posture, and intonation.</li><li>Conduct classes in 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4 time signatures confidently.</li><li>Utilize engaging techniques to teach rhythm, key signatures, and performance readiness to young learners.</li><li>Differentiate instruction to support both beginners and mixed-level students in ensemble settings.</li><li>Prepare students for school concerts and performances throughout the year.</li><li>Create an inclusive classroom that encourages confidence and creativity.</li><li>Communicate effectively with school personnel, program directors, and families as needed.</li><li>Follow ALC curriculum guidelines and safety protocols.</li></ul> 

Required Qualifications 
 
<ul><li>Minimum 2 years of experience teaching children instrumental music (school or community-based setting)</li><li>Comfortable teaching multiple instruments or focused groups (winds, percussion, or strings)</li><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Music Education or Performance (or currently pursuing)</li><li>Strong classroom management and organizational skills</li><li>Ability to teach rhythm, pitch, and performance prep in a developmentally appropriate way</li><li>Experience with beginner instruction including tone production, posture, bow hold (for strings), etc.</li><li>Ability to manage intonation and ensemble dynamics with mixed-level students</li><li>CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)</li><li>Live Scan background check and TB clearance (facilitated by ALC)</li></ul> 

Preferred Experience 
 
<ul><li>Experience conducting in varied time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4)</li><li>Familiarity with musical theatre or performance-based education</li><li>Fluency in reading music and music theory</li><li>Experience preparing students for public performances or showcases</li></ul>
