Position Description:<div>
We are seeking an Orthotic Assistant/Care Extender to join our team. No prior orthotic experience is required&mdash;we will provide training. Candidates with backgrounds in clinical or allied health settings, including cast technicians, athletic trainers, physical therapist assistants (PTAs), exercise science, physiology, kinesiology, or related fields are encouraged to apply. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy hands-on patient care, working with children, and learning specialized clinical skills in a supportive healthcare environment.</div>
The ideal Care Extender will provide compassionate patient care and enhance the patient experience by facilitating an efficient process flow. This individual will be conscientious, self-motivated, and solutions oriented.
As the Care Extender for a rapidly growing company, the individual in this role will blend patient care with design and fabrication of devices. Like other healthcare providers, the Care Extender will work in partnership with other healthcare professionals and become familiar with all aspects of their patients&rsquo; rehabilitative care. The primary function of orthotic and prosthetic rehabilitation is to increase and improve mobility in patients with physical limitations and treat other orthopedic conditions of the spine and limbs with mechanical devices to relieve symptoms. The Care extender would assist in building and providing orthotic and prosthetic devices to address their patients&rsquo; needs under the supervision of a Certified Orthotist and/or Certified Prosthetist.
A successful Care Extender will require the ability to shift gears quickly and often, assisting in all aspects of patient care from participating in patient evaluations, implementation/follow up of the treatment plan, adjustment of devices and the fitting of Off-the-Shelf devices. This role will require working in a team environment and assisting the Orthotist and, at times, having the ability to make decisions after proper training. This individual cares about providing the highest quality patient care and wants to be a part of a life-changing industry. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are critical. The ability to multi-task and re-prioritize regularly, as well as a keen attention to detail, are also essential; along with self-motivation and the ability to operate with a high level of discretion.
Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Assistance in the guided evaluation of orthoses on patients to ensure fit, function, and quality</li><li>
Fitting, repairing and maintaining orthoses under guidance of and in consultation with the Orthotist</li><li>
Make assigned casts, obtain measurements, model modifications, and scanning</li><li>
Use of machinery for trimming, grinding, buffing of orthotic devices</li><li>
Scribing of notes using Nymbl/EHR Patient software</li><li>
Front Desk Coverage</li><li>
Performing other duties as needed based on clinic setting</li><li>
Performs all other duties as required.</li></ul>
Certification Requirements (can be completed during the Training Program):
Certified Orthotic Assistant<ul><li>
Anatomy &amp; Physiology Course</li><li>
Medical Terminology Course</li><li>
Physics Course</li><li>
1900 training hours</li></ul>
Certified Fitter of Orthotics<ul><li>
Completion of an American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics &amp; Pedorthics, Inc. (ABC) approved orthotic fitter pre-certification education course</li><li>
 Completion of 1,000 hours of orthotic fitting patient care experience obtained either before or after completion of the education course</li><li><ul><li>Additional opportunities for Certification as a Prosthetic Assistant will be available on an as needed basis</li></ul></li></ul>
Education/Experience:<ul><li>
Minimum of High School Degree required; Completion of some collegiate coursework preferred</li><li>
Related technical experience and/or training in hands-on/mechanically oriented field, preferred</li><li>
Experience in patient care and/or rehabilitation, preferred</li><li>
Already COA certified highly preferred</li><li>
Already CFO certified highly preferred</li></ul>
