Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in patient care, medical office procedures, and optical services, with a passion for supporting eye health and enhancing patient experiences. As an integral part of our clinic, the Optometric Assistant will facilitate daily operations, assist with patient intake, and ensure the smooth functioning of clinical and administrative tasks. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment committed to providing exceptional eye care services.Responsibilities<ul><li>Greet patients warmly and efficiently manage patient intake processes, including collecting medical histories and updating records.</li><li>Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and visual acuity to support optometrists during examinations.</li><li>Assist with clinical procedures by maintaining aseptic techniques and preparing necessary equipment for eye exams.</li><li>Support the optometrists by conducting preliminary tests, including refraction assessments and ocular health screenings.</li><li>Manage electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms to ensure accurate documentation of patient information.</li><li>Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations to safeguard patient confidentiality and privacy at all times.</li><li>Provide excellent customer service at the front desk, scheduling appointments, processing payments, and handling retail sales of eyewear products.</li><li>Support inventory management by tracking optical supplies, ordering materials as needed, and maintaining organized medical records.</li><li>Assist with billing and coding procedures related to ophthalmology services to ensure accurate reimbursement processes.</li><li>Promote a positive clinic environment by collaborating effectively with team members and supporting pediatric or specialized patient needs.</li></ul>Skills<ul><li>Strong knowledge of patient care protocols within ophthalmology or optometry settings.</li><li>Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and best practices for maintaining confidentiality in healthcare environments.</li><li>Experience with intake procedures, vital signs measurement, and clinical support tasks.</li><li>Proficiency in aseptic techniques to ensure infection control during examinations and procedures.</li><li>Prior optical experience or knowledge of eyewear products enhances service delivery.</li><li>Understanding of ophthalmology terminology, anatomy of the eye, and physiology relevant to eye health assessments.</li><li>Experience working with EMR systems such as Epic or other electronic health record platforms.</li><li>Background in medical office administration including billing, coding, and managing medical records.</li><li>Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills to support eyewear sales initiatives effectively.</li><li>Clinic experience involving pediatrics or specialized populations is advantageous for providing tailored patient care.
