What you&rsquo;ll do:
The job description for the Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Nurse incorporates the Association of PeriOperative Nurse, Registered Nurses' Standards, Guidelines and Recommended Practices (AORN). The Pre-Admission Testing Nurse provides a crucial role in assessing patients before admission, and reports to the Clinical Director.
Accountabilities: (include, but are not limited to)
<ul><li>Conducts thorough assessments of patients scheduled for surgical or invasive procedures to evaluate their physical and emotional readiness.
</li><li>Understands and interprets physicians' orders, reviews lab values. Checks accuracy of admission paperwork (history, consents, instructions, etc.)
</li><li>Educate patients and their families on pre-op instructions, including what to expect with their upcoming procedure.
</li><li>Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including documentation of assessments, care plans, and communication with other healthcare team members.
</li><li>Review patients' medical histories, including pre-existing conditions, allergies, medications, and previous surgeries, to identify potential risks or complications
</li><li>Assess and document patients' current medications, including dosage and frequency. Follows OSCNS ASC's protocols and procedures in regards to patients' medications and NPO status.
</li><li>Ability to utilize the interpretation services.
</li><li>Collaborates with the admin support staff on intake process as needed.
</li><li>Delegates duties only to competent appropriate personnel.
</li><li>Documents clearly and maintains the patient record.
</li><li>Maintains pleasant and open communication with patients, families, staff and physicians.

</li></ul>Who you are:
<ul><li>Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
</li><li>Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
</li><li>Previous work experience in admissions, clinic, hospital, or ambulatory surgery center setting, no less than one (1) year.
</li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate professionally (i.e. using expressive vocabulary that communicates a complete and detailed message, avoiding spelling errors, employing a respectful tone)
</li><li>Working knowledge of office equipment and Software
</li><li>Familiarity with HIPAA, insurance regulations, policies, procedures, and other regulatory policies
</li><li>Medical office procedures, policies, practices and medical terminology, telephone protocol and professional etiquette
</li></ul><ul><li>Understanding of electronic medical systems
</li><li>Ability to maintain enthusiasm while facing a high volume and a large variety of duties
</li><li>Ability and interest in learning procedures and software functionalities that could improve the effectiveness and efficiency of individual and department efforts
</li><li>Organized, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
</li><li>Extremely reliable, patient and professional
</li><li>Reacts calmly and effectively under stress
</li><li>Interprets, adapts and applies guidelines and procedures appropriately
</li><li>Ability to develop and maintain effective and professional working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public by demonstrating empathy and tact
</li><li>Must be a team player with a positive attitude, the ability to work effectively with a diverse population, and the ability to demonstrate patience and professionalism
</li><li>Promotes teamwork through collaboration, represents the practice in a professional manner, and maintains the strictest confidentiality on all patient issues

Primary Working Environment:
This position, like all positions within a medical organization, may be exposed to blood and body fluids, specimens, toxins, chemicals, x-rays/lasers, contagious diseases and odors, all associated with patient care/services. This position must follow all universal precautions associated with working conditions and includes proper attire, hygiene, safety procedures and compliance to all policies, standards and regulating laws in effect. Exposure to patients and public, must be personable, work may be stressful at times accommodating unique demands form each physician and their staff. Organizational, memorization and multitasking skills used regularly.</div>
