Job Summary:
Responsible for the phlebotomy and laboratory assistant functions of the laboratory, outpatient locations, and other areas as assigned.
Job Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Assists in preparing laboratory procedures and educates staff in proper performance of these procedures.
</li><li>Assists in delivery of physicians reports via phone and electronic distribution in a timely manner.
</li><li>Practices proper telephone techniques by identifying self and directing calls and messages to correct destination.
</li><li>Performs venipuncture on patients of all age groups and other specimen collections using proper therapeutic skills and according to procedures.
</li><li>Maintains accurate, complete, and required records for accrediting agencies.
</li><li>Serves on hospital wide committees and quality improvement teams; actively works at building a customer focused work team from within the laboratory.
</li><li>Provides leadership, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff.
</li><li>Ensures staff compliance with department and organization policies, procedures, and protocols.
</li><li>Responds to complaints about patient care and manages through established channels.
</li><li>Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance, and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
</li><li>Processes time cards of assigned staff.
</li><li>Supervises functions that may include registration, order entry, specimen procurement, specimen processing, specimen testing, answering telephones, typing/transcribing various materials, making and distributing photocopies, filing and maintaining all pathology and clinical laboratory files, and calling for maintenance and repair of equipment.
</li><li>Monitors and provides a monthly order error rate report.
</li><li>Monitors appropriate logs to make sure all draws are being performed in a timely manner.
</li><li>Monitors turnaround by phlebotomists and lab assistants.
</li><li>Ensures phlebotomy service personnel maintain a positive client/patient-focused attitude.
</li></ul>Leadership Responsibilities:

</li><li>Resource Management - Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates worked activities to optimize productivity.

</li><li>Delegation - Effectively assigning tasks and responsibilities to team members based on their strengths. May perform duties of subordinates but at an advanced level and typically less than 80% of their time.
</li><li>Leadership Ability &ndash; Will approve timecards, participate in hiring, training new hires, provide input into corrective action &amp; development plans, assist with process improvement conduct performance reviews, assist with budgeting and operations, etc.
</li><li>Conflict Resolution - Identifies and addresses conflicts within the team, facilitating constructive dialogue, and finding solutions to disagreements.
</li><li>Change Management - Leads and adapts to organizational changes, communicating effectively during transitions, and engages the team in the process.

</li></ul>Licensure/Certification/Registration
<ul><li>PBT - Certified Phlebotomy Technician through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required within 6 months of employment in this position OR
</li><li>RPT - Phlebotomy Technician certification through American Medical Technologists (AMT) required within 6 months of employment in this position OR
</li><li>CLA - Certified Lab Assistant through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required within 6 months of employment in this position OR
</li><li>MLA - Medical Laboratory Assistant through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required within 6 months of employment in this position AND
</li><li>BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position

Phlebotomy Supervisor I

Job Summary:
The Patient Access Representative, under close supervision, will be responsible for answering inbound calls, scheduling, rescheduling and canceling patient appointments as required. Providing instructions to patients to ensure that they are prepared for examinations and procedures as well as confirming patient appointments. This job is expected to have great communication skills and provide extraordinary customer service.
Job Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Greets callers in a professional and welcoming manner, field questions, and assist in making patient appointments.
</li><li>Screens and routes inbound calls in a timely manner; creates telephone encounters as necessary.
</li><li>Performs patient intake/referral process; appropriately scheduling appointments according to scheduling algorithm/protocols.
</li><li>Performs scheduling of new and/or follow-up patient visits.
</li><li>Communicates appointment details with patients, provides necessary instructions, and appropriately answers questions.
</li><li>Performs scheduling and pre-registration process for appointments within the ambulatory setting, including, but not limited to confirming, cancelling, and rescheduling appointments, as needed.
</li><li>Abides by organizational and HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality, and patient rights.
</li><li>Obtains accurate collection of patient demographics, insurance coverage, and other relevant information.
</li><li>Promotes and assists patients/families in signing up for MyChart (Patient Portal).
</li><li>Functions as a liaison between patients, families, clinical care teams, staff, and community provider offices.
</li><li>Responsible for meeting telephone system metrics and any other productivity standards set by the department, which may include length of call, length of answer time, and number of calls taken within a specific period.
</li><li>Maintains patient information and documentation in electronic medical record.
</li><li>Supports departmental performance improvement goals.
</li><li>Supports quality care through compliance with departmental and organizational policies and guidelines, and external agency guidelines, standards, or regulations.
</li><li>Engages in strong communication, acts as team player in supporting mission and vision of organization, and abides by organization&rsquo;s core values.
