 The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting healthcare professionals in providing care to their patients. Their duties include recording and updating medical histories and contact information in patient files, scheduling patient appointments and performing standard care procedures.
 
 
 
 Responsibilities Include
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Provides general back-office support to physicians.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist provider with exams as needed.
 </li>
 <li>
 Stock and monitor inventory levels of medical supplies.
 </li>
 <li>
 Monitors and maintains medication sample closet.
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepares and assists patient for testing. Obtain results for exams as requested. Obtain lab results, have physician review, and notify patient of results as instructed by physician.
 </li>
 <li>
 Answer patient calls and respond in a prompt and professional manner.
 </li>
 <li>
 Responsible for final review of chart after chart prep.
 </li>
 <li>
 Train back-office staff on an as needed basis when requested by Office Administrator.
 </li>
 <li>
 Responds and complies with requests for information via most appropriate method, including fax.
 </li>
 <li>
 Responsible for completing all requests within timeframes as established by office policy.
 </li>
 <li>
 Follow rules and regulations of confidentiality protection as it relates to patient information.
 </li>
 <li>
 Delivers information to patient care or other designated areas including provider offices.
 </li>
 <li>
 Completes the referral process on specific procedures when requested to do so by Office Administrator.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides leadership and guidance for excellent customer service.
 </li>
 <li>
 Communicates and engages effectively with others.
 </li>
 <li>
 Continually seeks opportunities to learn, share knowledge, and develop processes for the transfer of information.
 </li>

 Follows and maintains policy and procedures.

 Qualifications

 High school diploma or GED required.

 Completion of an accredited medical assistance certification program preferred.

 Minimum 2 years; combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience.

 Front Office Medical Assistant encompasses both administrative and clinical aspects of medical assisting. Front Office Medical Assistant provides patient support and communication by facilitating an exceptional patient experience to build and reinforce satisfaction, trust, and drive organizational loyalty. Accountable for welcoming and preparing the patient for their appointment, the Front Office Medical Assistant informs patients of relevant and required information for their visit and provides clear communication around the services they are scheduled to receive.
 
 
 
 Responsibilities Include
 
 
 
 <ul>

 Greets all patients and visitors in a professional and welcoming manner.
 </li>
 <li>
 Obtains copies of insurance cards, driver&rsquo;s license, authorizations, referrals, and other required appointment documentation and appropriately saves them in practice EMR.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs demographic and insurance validation, and informs patient of privacy policies and procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Effectively communicates unexpected schedule delays to patients and assists with patient comfort should delays arise.
 </li>
 <li>
 Collects patient co-payments, reconciliation charges and outstanding balances upon Check-In as well as submitting batches on a daily basis.
 </li>
 <li>
 Keeps the reception and patient waiting areas clean and organized.
 </li>
 <li>
 Schedules patient appointments/follow-up appointments in accordance with established policies and procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepares and administers medications as directed by the Physician; performs basic laboratory tests, EKGs as ordered or indicated and suture removal and dressing changes.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs medical histories, provides instruction to the patient regarding medications and diet, and authorizes prescription refills as directed.
 </li>

 Greets patients and answers phones.
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepares, cleans, and maintains exam and treatment rooms, as well as supplies and equipment.
 </li>

 Qualifications

 High School Diploma/Equivalency required.

 Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited school (credentials in the state of employment in accordance with state requirements and applicable regulations).

 Current BLS certification for healthcare providers preferred; required within 90 days of employment.
 </li>
 <li>
 1 year of experience preferred.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to perform basic patient data entry into athenaClinicals electronic health record and use Microsoft Office suite.
 </li>
 <li>
 Skill in use of computer, calculator, copy machine.
 </li>
 <li>
 Basic knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, and punctuation.

 Back Office Medical Assistant reports to the office manager. The position encompasses both administrative and clinical aspects of medical assisting. It includes, performing check-in/check-out functions, answering phone calls, verifying insurance benefits, scheduling and confirming appointments, collecting copays, deductibles, and co-insurances, rooming patients, interviewing and giving instructions to patients as directed by physician or physician assistant or nurse practitioner, handling incoming and outgoing correspondence with other providers or pharmacies, processing requests for medical records, obtaining vitals and other pertinent patient information, assisting providers with exams and procedures, and performing diagnostic testing.
 
 
 
 Responsibilities Include
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Greets patients and performs Check-in/Check-out procedures in an accurate and timely manner. Collects co-pays and outstanding patient balances, prints orders and educational materials for patients, schedules procedures, obtains insurance card and payment guarantor information, and checks insurance eligibility.
 </li>
 <li>
 Answers phone calls in a timely manner, schedules appointments, and maintains assigned clinical inboxes in athenaClinicals electronic medical record system. Demonstrates phone etiquette in accordance with Panoramic Health standards of behavior.
 </li>
 <li>
 Rooms patients and completes full patient intake, including vitals, allergies, medication reconciliation, and recording recent flu and pneumonia vaccinations. Assess patient symptoms, reactions, and physical condition. Records all data in athenaClinicals.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to effectively determine response priority and level for patient telephone calls and patient portal messages, consult with physician or physician assistant or nurse practitioner and document appropriately.
 </li>
 <li>
 Responsible for collecting specimens and following CLIA regulations.
 </li>
 <li>
 May assist with facilitating referrals to specialty care, imaging or laboratory studies as ordered by the physician or physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Coordinates with others to make sure patient is appropriately set up for any required lab studies or imaging.
 </li>
 <li>
 Calls patients with test results or instructions as provided by the physician or physician assistant or nurse practitioner.
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepares for patient office visits and prepare lab work in patient charts. Makes patient reminder calls for lab work (2) two weeks prior to patient appointments.
 </li>
 <li>
 Scans and attaches patient medical records and administrative documents in athenaClinicals. Reviews and processes incoming faxes and flow labs that are not electronically sent.
 </li>
 <li>
 May participate in preparing payment batches and maintaining accurate office cash transactions.
 </li>
 <li>
 Processes medication authorizations and refills. Organizes drug sample closet and discards expired medications appropriately.
 </li>
 <li>
 Reschedule patients as appropriate by maintaining athenaclinicals automated appointment scheduling reminder system. Maintain appointment waitlist and schedule appointment from waitlist when feasible.
 </li>
 <li>
 Exercises sound judgment when dealing with challenging and stressful situations.
 </li>
 <li>
 May occasionally act as a trainer for other medical support staff or students.
 </li>
 <li>

 Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
