Patient Plus Urgent Care

<div><div>The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the Providers in support of the medical care of patients. Day-to-day activities will vary from triage, taking medical histories, and performing point-of-care and phlebotomy testing to other clerical and clinical duties. 
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities: 
<ul><li>Performs general and medical assisting duties according to state guidelines.</li><li>Records and signs all pertinent information in the patient's chart</li><li>Triage all patients according to Patient Plus standards.</li><li>Instruct patients in the collection of samples and tests.</li><li>Collects, accurately labels, and forwards specimens for laboratory analysis.</li><li>Prepares patients and assists Providers with examination, treatments, and procedures.</li><li>Prepares and administers medications and injections after verifying correct dosage (Use the six
</li></ul>rights of medication). 
<ul><li>Observes, records, and reports the patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to
</li></ul>Providers. 
<ul><li>Prepares examination rooms; sterilizes instruments for tests per established procedures.</li><li>Thoroughly cleans equipment and examination rooms per policy.</li><li>Demonstrates thorough knowledge of infection control procedures; strictly adheres to policies
</li></ul>and procedures; washes hands before and after each patient contact. 
<ul><li>Instructs and arranges for patient testing and admissions.</li><li>Responds to and refers appropriate incoming telephone calls to Providers.</li><li>Instruct the patient regarding medication and treatment instructions before discharge.</li><li>Posts tests and examination results to charts.</li><li>Explains and distributes patient education material (if applicable).</li><li>Answers patients' questions.</li><li>Escorts patients to the appropriate area in the clinic when necessary.</li></ul>
Patient Records and Recall: 
<ul><li>Notify and record patients of test results, as directed by Provider.</li><li>Notifies patient of the next follow-up visit required.</li></ul> 

Occupational Health: 
<ul><li>Perform drug screen collections based on DOT guidelines.</li><li>Accurately perform other services, including, but not limited to, DOT and non-DOT physicals in
</li></ul>compliance with current guidelines and Breath Alcohol Testing. 
<ul><li>Follow documentation procedures and complete required documentation related to each patient
</li></ul>visit. 
<ul><li>Accurately use the EMR system for Occupational Medicine/Workers' Compensation patients.</li><li>Execute follow-up calls promptly.</li><li>Maintain continual compliance with all regulating agencies.</li><li>Assist with on-site testing as needed.</li></ul>
Other: 
<ul><li>Stocks exam rooms, rotates merchandise, stocks new supplies in exam rooms, assists the front desk
</li></ul>when not involved with patient care or back-office maintenance, and maintains an adequate inventory
 
of drugs and medical supplies. 
<ul><li>Notifies Clinic Manager/Supervisor if supplies need to be ordered.</li><li>Ensure all equipment is calibrated per appropriate regulations.</li><li>Participates in continuing education and other appropriate experiences to maintain and enhance
</li></ul>professional competence. 
<ul><li>Maintains patient confidentiality 100% of the time; demonstrates complete discretion when
</li></ul>discussing patient information. 
<ul><li>Maintains established office policies and procedures and follows OSHA and CLIA guidelines (CLIA:
</li></ul>Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments. 
<ul><li>Maintains an organized and clean work area.</li><li>Must be flexible and committed to being a team player.</li><li>Perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul> 
</div><ul><li>Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program with one year of</li></ul>
experience in a MA position. 
<ul><li>Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.</li><li>Willing to attend continuing medical education courses at the employer&rsquo;s request.</li><li>Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.</li><li>Skill in applying and modifying professional nursing principles, methods, and techniques to</li></ul>
provide patient care. 
<ul><li>Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer care.</li><li>Perception is necessary to observe pertinent detail when reading thermometers, blood pressure</li></ul>
devices, and other equipment gauges and to observe the patient's condition. 
<ul><li>Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.</li><li>Ability to maintain quality control standards.</li><li>Ability to interpret tests.</li><li>Applies guidelines and procedures as indicated.</li><li>Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.</li><li>Strong positive interpersonal skills; Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing.</li><li>High degree of initiative and sense of organization.</li></ul>
