This position is a year-round position with full time and part time shifts available.The position is available as soon as possible.At the Phelps Community Center, we offer comprehensive childcare to children ages 6 weeks-12 years old. This position is with our School Age Program, which cares for children aged 4-12.During an average school year, our School Age Program Staff are responsible for before and after school care for 60-80 children daily. Students leave for school at 8:45, and return at 3:30. Typically this position is a split shift position with free time during the school day, although there are opportunities to work in other programs mid-day.All schedules are Monday-Friday, and within the hours of 5:30am-6:15pmMust have reliable transportation to/from Phelps Community CenterLearning Environment:<ul><li>To assist in providing a safe, cheerful and motivating environment for the children.</li><li>To assist in the supervision of children in all activities, inside and out.</li><li>To assist in maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly classroom, with stimulating learning centers and hands-on activities.</li><li>To assist in the preparation and care of materials.</li><li>To give input to planning classroom activities and Center events.</li><li>To assist in maintaining order and discipline in the classroom.</li><li>To know every child as an individual, observing and recording growth and development.</li><li>To interact frequently with children in a positive, respectful, responsive, and encouraging manner.</li></ul>Parent and Staff Communication:<ul><li>To know every child&rsquo;s parent (s) by name, and to communicate positively with them.</li><li>To work cooperatively with Center Staff and Administration.</li><li>To assist new and substitute staff assigned to the classroom.</li></ul>Professionalism:<ul><li>To attend and participate in training sessions and a minimum of 15 hours or required per year.</li><li>To be supportive of the Center and Center Administration.</li><li>To seek professional growth and development, attending at least two outside workshops per year.</li><li>To maintain a positive work climate.</li><li>To maintain a professional image.</li></ul>General:<ul><li>To follow daily schedules and routines.</li><li>To follow Center policies, practices, and procedures.</li><li>To assist with required record-keeping.</li><li>To, at times, be responsible for a group of children without assistance.</li><li>To follow all licensing regulations.</li></ul>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:<ul><li>Increasing knowledge of NYS child care regulation.</li><li>Increasing ability to maintain positive relationships with children, co-workers, and parents.</li><li>Increasing ability to use constructive methods for maintaining group control and individual behaviors.</li><li>Increasing ability to use sound judgment and tact.</li><li>Increasing ability to work as a team member.</li><li>Flexibility</li><li>Creativity and patience.</li><li>Ability to reach a child 20 &ndash; 30 feet away within 30 seconds.</li><li>Ability to crouch to a child&rsquo;s height, maintain eye contact at the child&rsquo;s level, and sit on the floor for extended periods of time on a regular basis.</li><li>A strong sense of responsibility.</li></ul>Pay TBD based on schooling and experienceHigh school diploma or equivalent is required, as well as an Associates or Bachelors Degree in Education or equivalent field; or actively working towards an Education Degree or equivalent credentials, or 2 or more years of experience.One or more years of experience with children age 4-12 is reuired.Work Remotely<ul><li>No</li></ul>Job Types: Full-time, Part-timePay: From $16.00 per hourBenefits:<ul><li>Employee discount</li><li>Health insurance</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Retirement plan</li></ul>Work Location: In person
