Our mission is to lead the nation in advancing Veterans&rsquo; health and well-being through research and education.The CMCVAMC Jonathan and Plum Simons Precision Oncology Center of Excellence is expanding its clinical research efforts in therapeutic trials and cancer genetics to improve access to precision oncology clinical care and research across the local region (VISN 4). PREF is hiring an experienced oncology research nurse to support this project by facilitating the enrollment of eligible patients across the VISN in clinical trials and assisting in the opening of new trials both at CMCVAMC at sites across the VISN under the direction of the Oncology Clinical Research Program Manager and reporting to the CMCVAMC oncology Principal Investigators. The research nurse will be a PREF employee, supervised by the CMCVAMC Oncology team.This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of a cancer clinical research program while developing new skills in a dynamic oncology research environment.Principal Duties Include:Clinical Research Support:<ul><li>Support the conduct of both interventional and non-interventional clinical cancer research conducted at CMCVAMC and throughout VISN 4.</li><li>Collaborate with sponsor entities and the CMCVAMC regulatory team on study activation and management.</li><li>Responsible for study start-up activities, screening/enrollment, scheduling of study-related visits, data collection, safety reporting, and study close-out activities.</li><li>Screen Veterans across VISN 4 (PA/DE) VA System for clinical trial eligibility.</li><li>Assist with and handle start-up for the opening of a variety of clinical trials including NCI trials, industry sponsored trials, decentralized trials, pragmatic trials, and CCRN network wide studies.</li><li>Contribute to feasibility assessment for clinical trials including assisting in the assessment and development of resources at other VA sites in VISN 4.</li><li>Coordinate execution of clinical trials with VISN 4 VA site providers.</li><li>Navigate patients through the process of traveling to CMCVAMC from VISN 4 VA sites for study opportunities.</li><li>Assist with and perform research telehealth visits with patients.</li><li>Assist with protocol development as needed.</li><li>Build infrastructure and help develop the program in collaboration with the team.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>Coordination of patient care:<ul><li>Ensure that patients care is coordinated, including visits for medical, radiation and surgical oncology as well as any specialized tests such as imaging and biopsies.</li><li>Ensure that all relevant results as well as images and biopsies are available for review.</li></ul>Education and Training:<ul><li>Participate in formalized training if needed, including coursework and case studies.</li><li>Train new research staff on research protocols.</li></ul>Collaboration and Communication:<ul><li>Collaborate closely with local Hematology/Oncology clinical team and research team, and with providers and research teams at other VA locations across VISN 4.</li><li>Facilitate and participate in clinical meetings and respond to data discrepancies or monitoring/audit findings.</li></ul>Qualifications:<ul><li>Registered Nurse with license to practice.</li><li>2- 3 years of clinical research experience required. Experience in a multi-modality clinical trials group or research team is a plus.</li><li>Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.</li><li>2-3 years of oncology nursing experience preferred.</li><li>Oncology Nursing Certification preferred.</li><li>Proven ability to learn and apply new concepts, work collaboratively, organize and prioritize tasks, and problem-solve effectively.
