Social Media &amp; Marketing AssistantJob DescriptionFLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time Contract-to-Hire Department: Marketing Reports to: Marketing Manager Hours: 30/week Pay: $20/hour Contract dates: June - December 2026Objective of the position:The Social Media &amp; Marketing Assistant supports the Library&rsquo;s marketing and community engagement efforts through social media content creation, customer engagement, promotional support, and marketing operations. This position plays a key role in strengthening the Library&rsquo;s digital presence, supporting brand consistency, and helping communicate library services, programs, and resources to the community.This is a 30-hour-per-week contract-to-hire position, including occasional evening or weekend hours for content capture at programs and events.The Social Media &amp; Marketing Assistant works to ensure effective communication and promotion of the library&rsquo;s offerings, fostering a positive image and strong community presence. This position is committed to the Pickerington Public Library&rsquo;s Mission to &ldquo;Inspiring Knowledge, Connecting Community, Enriching Our World, Fostering a Love of Reading!&rdquo;Supervisory responsibilities: noneJob Summary:Social Media &amp; Digital Content (Primary Focus)<ul><li>Maintain and implement the strategic social media content plan aligned with the Library&rsquo;s annual marketing goals and priorities. Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to review, refine, and adjust the plan on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.</li><li>Write, capture, and create short-form content, including reels, stories, video clips, and shorts for social media platforms.</li><li>Coordinate and capture photo and video content of events, programs, services, collections, resources, and community impact.</li><li>Compile, analyze, and report on social media performance metrics, including reach, engagement, follower growth, and audience demographics, to evaluate content effectiveness, measure success, and identify opportunities to expand the Library's digital presence.</li><li>Maintain organization of photo and video folders, including archiving unusable or outdated content.</li><li>Monitor direct messages and comments and escalate concerns or sensitive issues to the Marketing Manager to ensure professional and timely responses.</li><li>Monitor social media channels and community groups for customer feedback and escalate concerns or sensitive issues to the Marketing Manager.</li><li>Assist with increasing social media engagement, reach, and follower growth.</li><li>Share and support community partner content when appropriate and identify cross-promotion opportunities.</li><li>Help maintain a consistent posting schedule across platforms.</li><li>Assist with accessibility best practices, including writing alt-text for graphics and digital content.</li></ul>Marketing &amp; Promotional Support<ul><li>Assist in maintaining the marketing calendar and tracking deadlines.</li><li>Assist in maintaining scheduled posting timelines and promotional updates.</li><li>Proofread marketing materials for grammar, clarity, formatting, brand consistency, and adherence to marketing guidelines.</li><li>Assist in reviewing staff-created promotional submissions to ensure alignment with marketing guidelines and standards.</li><li>Assist with writing promotional content, inserting graphics, proofreading, and checking links and formatting as needed.</li><li>Create and update signage for desks, doors, displays, and public spaces.</li><li>Assist with posters, promotional graphics, and final production files.</li><li>Remove outdated or canceled promotional materials from social media, the website, and printed displays.</li></ul>Administrative &amp; Marketing Operations Support<ul><li>Assist with content organization and digital asset management.</li><li>Support marketing projects and special initiatives as assigned.</li><li>Review and manage Community Bulletin Board submissions according to library guidelines.</li><li>Serve as backup to the Marketing Manager for urgent communications such as weather closings or emergency announcements.</li></ul>Qualifications/Position Requirements:<ul><li>Experience creating engaging content for social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and similar platforms. Submission of 3&ndash;5 short-form video examples is required to be considered for an interview.</li><li>Short-form video scripting, editing, photography, and production experience required.</li><li>Strong writing, proofreading, and communication skills.</li><li>Ability to create, organize, and maintain strategic content schedules and manage multiple deadlines.</li><li>Basic graphic design experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools.</li><li>Ability to work independently while balancing priorities in a fast-paced environment.</li><li>Comfortable interacting professionally and exercising discretion when communicating with customers, staff, and community partners.</li><li>Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.</li></ul>Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift up to 30 pounds and push a 50-pound cart.
