As we grow the next era of programmable IP infrastructure, we are expanding our core engineering team and are now looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to take ownership of critical services that keep the Story protocol running.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
About The Role</b></div><div></div><div><br>
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who can own and maintain Story&rsquo;s backend systems end to end, including the Story API, indexing pipelines, workflow orchestration services, and the supporting cloud infrastructure behind them.</div><div></div><div><br>
This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering and infrastructure. You will primarily work on Story&rsquo;s backend services in Go, but will also collaborate closely with infrastructure on deployments, cloud migrations, and system reliability. This is a high-impact role that will immediately take on meaningful responsibilities across the Story platform.</div><div></div><div><br>
You will join a small, highly technical team where you will have autonomy, significant ownership, and the opportunity to influence the architecture of Story&rsquo;s backend as we scale.</div></div>
<div><div><h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>What You'll Do:
</b></h3><ul><li><ul><li>Maintain and extend the Story API, indexing systems, and backend services</li><li>
Write high-quality Go code and improve the performance and reliability of distributed services</li><li>
Support day-to-day infrastructure needs, including deployments, monitoring, and cloud operations</li><li>
Contribute to the GCP to AWS migration and help stand up self-hosted Temporal</li><li>
Debug issues across the stack and own services from design through deployment</li><li>
Collaborate with backend, infra, and protocol engineers on architecture, reviews, and best practices</li><li>
Take on maintenance and optimization work left by recent team transitions and help re-establish backend coverage for Story</li><li>
Design and implement new backend systems and services from the ground up, shaping core platform capabilities as Story evolves</li></ul></li></ul></div></div>
<div><div><h3 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Who You Are:
</b></h3><ul><li><ul><li>5 to 8+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend focus</li><li>
Proficiency with Go (Golang) in production environments</li><li>
Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and concurrency</li><li>
Hands-on experience with AWS or other major cloud providers</li><li>
Experience deploying, maintaining, and debugging production services</li><li>
Ability to operate in a fast-moving, high-ownership startup environment</li><li>
Excellent communication and collaboration skills</li><li>
Based in the Bay Area and comfortable with a hybrid work model</li></ul></li></ul></div></div>

</b></h3><ul><li><ul><li>Experience with infrastructure tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, or CI/CD</li><li>
Familiarity with Temporal, workflow systems, or distributed task orchestration</li><li>
Experience self-hosting cloud or open-source infrastructure components</li><li>
Background with blockchain or decentralized systems (not required)</li><li>
Contributions to open-source projects</li><li>
Familiarity with Rust or TypeScript microservices</li></ul></li></ul></div></div>
