A (Sr.) Economist in Market Design is responsible for leading the evolution of PJM's wholesale energy markets. As a member of the Market Design team, you will develop a detailed understanding of the workings of the wholesale electricity market and be responsible for designing, analyzing and defending the market mechanisms that promote grid reliability and economic efficiency. This role will focus on areas such as resource adequacy, price formation, and the integration of emerging technologies.<br>

Essential Functions:</div><div>
The primary focus of the work in the Market Design department:</div><ul><li><div>
Evaluate current and new market rules changes and recommend enhancements</div></li><li><div>
Coordinate with the Market Analysis department on the scope and results of empirical analysis of market performance, market efficiency and behavior</div></li><li><div>
Lead the economic theory behind market design reforms and conduct advanced econometric analysis to understand market outcomes</div></li><li><div>
Present complex and technical content to a diverse audience through written reports and presentations</div></li><li><div>
Collaborate with internal (market, operations, planning, legal, IT and etc.) and external (IMM, academia, FERC, ISOs, members) business partners to work on challenging problems</div></li><li><div>
Lead and support efforts on publishing papers, both internally and externally, to advance PJM&rsquo;s thought leadership in market design.</div></li></ul><div><br>
Characteristics and Qualifications:<br>
Required:</div><ul><li><div>
Bachelor's degree in Economics, Mathematics, Master's degree in Engineering, Economics or equivalent work experience</div></li><li><div>
Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail</div></li><li><div>
Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis</div></li><li><div>
Ability to use mathematical and electrical theory</div></li><li><div>
Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support</div></li></ul><div><br>
Preferred:</div><ul><li><div>
MBA degree, PhD., Economics, PhD., Mathematics</div></li><li><div>
At least 5 years of experience apply economic and statistical theory to complex market problems</div></li><li><div>
Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions</div></li></ul></div>
