Postpartum Doulas offer many different services to their clients; there is no &ldquo;standard&rdquo; jobdescription. The primary purpose of the Postpartum Doula is to help the entire family transitioninto life with a newborn.Since the needs of every postpartum person are different, the Postpartum Doula must beflexible enough to tailor their services to meet the needs at hand.This could include doing things to help new parents feel more confident in their roles, liketeaching them some basic newborn care skills.They may help newly postpartum families that are overwhelmed with running errands or evendoing some housekeeping tasks. There may be other children who need guidance on finding ahelpful place in a growing family, and there might be a parent who needs encouragement.The tasks executed by a Postpartum Doula are not difficult or highly technical. For many people,it means sharing knowledge acquired from their dedicated training and years of experience.Some of the duties may seem menial or even trivial to an outsider; however, a PostpartumDoula understands that for someone newly postpartum, anything that lessens a load makes adifference.Some of the duties that a Postpartum Doula may perform include:● Breastfeeding support● Newborn Care &amp; Guidance● Feeding Support● Help with the emotional and physical recovery after birth● Light housekeeping so that mom does not feel so overwhelmed● Running errands● Assistance with newborn care, such as diapering, bathing, feeding, and comforting● Light meal preparation● Baby soothing techniques● Sibling care● Referrals to local resources such as parenting classes, pediatricians, lactation support,and support groupsIn summary, postpartum doulas provide non-medical support to new parents and their familiesduring the first few weeks or months after childbirth. Their duties include emotional support,practical assistance with newborn care and household tasks, and informational support relatedto newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
