Medication Technicians provide high quality personal care and service to residents as directed by the Administrator. The cares will support the personal choices of the residents while maintaining consistency with regulations and established best practices. Medication Technicians are responsible for proper management and distribution of resident medications as defined by medication administration policies and procedures.
The Medication Technician is responsible for the safe and accurate administration of medications, direct resident and tenant care, and contributing to a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. This role includes reviewing Individualized Service Plans (ISPs), reporting changes in condition, and serving as a mentor to new staff. The Medication Technician also provides support to all departments including activities, dietary, and housekeeping.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Medication Administration &amp; Health Monitoring:<ul><li>
Administer medications in accordance with the Six Rights of Medication Administration (right resident, right drug, right dose, right route, right time, right documentation).</li><li>
Ensure medications are given as prescribed and documented per CBRF/RCAC guidelines and DHS regulations.</li><li>
Monitor residents/tenants for side effects or adverse reactions and report any changes to the supervising nurse or manager.</li><li>
Maintain accurate medication records and documentation.</li><li>
Properly store, secure, and dispose of medications in compliance with regulations.</li></ul>
Caregiving &amp; Resident Support:<ul><li>
Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and ambulation.</li><li>
Review and follow each resident&rsquo;s/tenant&rsquo;s Individualized Service Plan (ISP) prior to assuming care responsibilities.</li><li>
Promptly report any observed or suspected changes in a resident&rsquo;s condition, behavior, or needs.</li><li>
Foster a supportive and respectful relationship with residents and families.</li></ul>
Housekeeping &amp; Environment Maintenance:<ul><li>
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment for all residents and tenants.</li><li>
Perform light housekeeping duties such as tidying rooms, making beds, doing laundry, and disinfecting surfaces.</li><li>
Ensure communal and personal spaces are kept orderly and sanitary.</li></ul>
Collaboration &amp; Cross-Departmental Support:<ul><li>
Assist dietary staff with meal setup, tray delivery, and resident dining needs as needed.</li><li>
Support the activities team by encouraging resident participation and assisting with events.</li><li>
Cooperate with maintenance and other team members to promote a pleasant and safe community environment.</li></ul>
Training &amp; Mentorship:<ul><li>
Serve as a mentor and trainer to new caregiving staff, demonstrating tasks and best practices.</li><li>
Coach and support new hires during onboarding to promote confidence, competence, and team cohesion.</li><li>
Communicate clearly with supervisors regarding trainee progress and development needs.</li></ul>
HIPAA &amp; Confidentiality Compliance:<ul><li>
Maintain strict confidentiality of all resident information in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and community policies.</li><li>
Access and use resident health information only as required to perform assigned duties.</li><li>
Ensure that resident charts, medication records, care plans, and personal health information are secure and not accessible to unauthorized individuals.</li><li>
Immediately report any suspected breach of confidentiality or privacy violations to the appropriate supervisor.</li></ul>
Other Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Attend mandatory meetings and ongoing in-service opportunities. Annual requirements for continuing education must be met in accordance with DHS regulations.</li><li>
Actively promotes a healthy approach by communicating, interacting, and working cooperatively to meet resident/tenants needs; respond promptly and positively to requests for assistance.</li><li>

Support a dignified, respectful, and caring atmosphere with residents/tenants, families, visitors, and fellow employees.</li><li>
Perform all other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
Requirements:
<ul><li>Must be at least 18 years old.</li><li>
High School Diploma or GED required.</li><li>
Successful completion of CBRF medication administration training and required CBRF core trainings (Standard Precautions, Fire Safety, First Aid/Choking, and Resident Rights).</li><li>
Previous caregiving experience in a CBRF or RCAC setting preferred.</li><li>
Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions in English.</li><li>
Strong observation, communication, and interpersonal skills.</li><li>
Compassionate, dependable, and team oriented.</li><li>
Understanding of and commitment to HIPAA and confidentiality protocols.</li><li>
Ability to learn new technology.</li><li>
Ability to multitask and prioritize.</li><li>
Ability to work only weekends.</li></ul></div>
