 Job Purpose
 
 
 
 
 In keeping a tradition of excellence, the purpose of the Teacher Librarian is to help students learn required subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.  Duties And Responsibilities
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Consults with teachers and administrators to create long-range and short-range plans for the library in support of the school's instructional program
 </li>
 <li>
 Develops and implements library policies and procedures for effective library use
 </li>
 <li>
 Plans for and provides necessary resources, technology, and instructional services that align with MS library standards and curriculum goals
 </li>
 <li>
 Plans instruction that meets the diversity of students' backgrounds, cultures, skills, learning levels, language proficiencies, interests, and special needs
 </li>
 <li>
 Develops and monitors a budget for the library in support of the school's instructional program in consultation with school/district administration
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides a balanced, comprehensive, and up-to-date collection of print and non-print materials to support the school's instructional program within district resources
 </li>
 <li>
 Classifies, catalogues, and organizes materials according to a standard classification system for easy accessibility
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintains accurate library records and statistics on the use of materials
 </li>
 <li>
 Accounts for materials through a yearly inventory and discards inappropriate, worn-out, or outdated items
 </li>
 <li>
 Encourages reading of various forms of literature by maintaining an awareness of students' reading interests and providing guidance in the selection of appropriate materials
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintains effective communication with staff and students informing them of new acquisitions and library services
 </li>
 <li>
 Determines instructional needs within the library program by consulting with library advocacy committee
 </li>
 <li>
 Collaboratively teaches information and digital literacy as an integral part of the curriculum
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides training to students and teachers in the use of resources, technology, and equipment
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists students and teachers in locating information and resources for research
 </li>
 <li>
 Organizes the library for optimal use by students and faculty
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrates high expectations for all students and maintains positive library environment which produces learning opportunities for all students and staff
 </li>
 <li>
 Participates in appropriate professional learning opportunities and/or belongs to professional library organizations. Applies professional learning to benefit students and teachers
 </li>
 <li>
 Communicates effectively with teachers, students, and family about the library program and available resources
 </li>
 <li>
 Advocates for the library program in the school and community
 </li>
 <li>
 Promotes the Library Bill of Rights and Intellectual Freedom
 </li>
 <li>
 Meet and instruct assigned classes at the assigned school and at times designated by Principal
 </li>
 <li>
 Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students
 </li>
 <li>
 Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of Principal
 </li>
 <li>
 Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior
 </li>
 <li>
 Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students
 </li>
 <li>
 Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
 </li>
 <li>
 Implement, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
 </li>
 <li>
 Identify and report the possibility of learning disabilities of students on a regular basis
 </li>
 <li>
 Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation
 </li>
 <li>
 Assist the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
 </li>
 <li>
 Make provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
 </li>
 <li>
 Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistant(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluate the job performance
 </li>
 <li>
 Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by participation in training sessions and classes
 </li>
 <li>
 Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable; serve on staff committees
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use
 </li>
 <li>
 Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain confidentiality
 </li>
 <li>
 Regular, dependable, in person, and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position
 </li>
 <li>
 Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policy
 </li>
 <li>
 Read, understand, and abide by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other District, State and Federal policies, and procedures and protocols as established by RCSD and the Mississippi Educator Code of Conduct
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Qualifications
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Education Level: Bachelor's degree in Education with an endorsement in Library Media
 </li>
 <li>
 Certification: Hold an appropriate Mississippi Teaching Credential or valid emergency certification issued by the state of Mississippi Educational Board
 </li>
