Tutor Counselors are directly responsible to the Associate Director. T/C's will assist the staff in monitoring participants in their adjustment to the program and working with these students to tutor and facilitate their adjustment.
Duties and Responsibilities
<ul><li>Conduct group and individual counseling and tutorial sessions as requested.
</li><li>Assist in the summer commuter and residential experience.
</li><li>Be supportive of the participant's academic endeavors;
</li><li>Attend all tutorial training sessions;
</li><li>Notify Associate Director of any problems encountered;
</li><li>Maintain records of tutorial sessions;
</li><li>Maintain records of tutorial hours;
</li><li>Assist staff in conducting SAT classes; assist students in completing SAT applications
</li><li>Ather duties as assigned
</li></ul>Qualifications
<ul><li>Maintain a 3.0 GPA in subject areas.
</li><li>Experience tutoring secondary school or college students in laboratory setting; or middle school students;
</li><li>Ability to write clear and concise, narrative reports;
</li><li>Ability to use effective and proper English grammar;
</li><li>Spanish (written and spoken required for at least 1 tutor);
</li><li>Knowledge of remote and social media platforms used by target schools and participants.
</li></ul>Pay Range:
Minimum - Maximum: $17.00/hour

Science Instructor is required to teach Monday - Friday from 10:00 am - 2:30 pm (4.5 hours per day) starting June 8th, 2026 - July 2nd, 2026. Mandatory High School course: Physics
June 8th, 2026- July 2nd, 2026 (Virtual)
 
July 6th, 2026 - July 9th, 2026 (In-Person)
Program Description:
The Upward Bound Program is designed to identify youth with the potential for education at the post-secondary level. Encourage qualified individuals to complete high school and enroll in a post-secondary institution of their choice. The program provides individual/group counseling, advisement, and technical assistance from 9th - 12th grade in career exploration; education planning; college entrance examinations preparation; admission and financial aid procedures; tutoring; cultural and motivational development and guidance on secondary school re-entry to other programs. Summer classes will be held at Bronx Community College.
Other Duties:
<ul><li>Devote 4.5 hours from June 8th, 2026 - July 9th, 2026 (Monday - Friday) - Part time position
</li><li>Prepare lesson plans and instructional materials
</li><li>Prepare Pre and Post exams
</li><li>Prepare and submit weekly progress and attendance reports
</li><li>Conduct evaluation of student's progress
</li><li>Work closely with the Upward Bound counseling and tutoring staff
</li><li>Must be able to develop individual remediation plans and work with students individually and in groups
</li><li>Other duties as assigned
</li></ul>Core Competencies/Qualifications:
<ul><li>Bachelor's degree and a New York City K-12 teaching license.
</li><li>Science instructor must have a New York State Certification in Science (9th - 12th grade)
</li><li>Two or three years of experience in an educational training program or in a target high school
</li><li>Must have knowledge of problems and interests of disadvantaged youth.
</li><li>Quality of integrity, dignity, and cordiality
</li><li>Provide two (2) signed letters of recommendation on a business letterhead.
</li></ul>Pay Range:
Minimum - Maximum: $65.00/hour
