Position Summary:
 
The Kinder Institute for Urban Research and the School of Social Sciences are hiring a Manager, Community Research and Evaluation Help Desk position to serve as an embedded liaison at the United Way of Greater Houston to stand up a first-of-its-kind community Help Desk that aims to triage data and evaluation questions and services for Houston-area nonprofits in coordination with the United Way of Greater Houston&rsquo;s Coffee and Quality programming. This staff member will be a colleague to their United Way Quality Coach counterpart at the Help Desk. The Manager will also provide regular communication to the Houston evaluation network with updates and progress on Help Desk activities and summarize short-form, peer-reviewed articles that provide timely insight into policy implementation, analysis, and evaluation.
The Manager of Community Research and Evaluation Help Desk will work closely with the Director of the Houston Population Research Center at the Kinder Institute, the School of Social Sciences Assistant Dean for Student Programs, and the Assistant Vice President for Mission and Strategy at the United Way of Greater Houston to develop a menu of Help Desk offerings; a process to collect, sort, and triage incoming requests; and a decision tree that resolves and channels Help Desk requests to the appropriate audiences in a timely manner. The Manager needs to be thoughtful in developing an accessible user experience and adept at creating a workflow that accounts for the various key stakeholders and their respective areas of expertise.
The Manager of Community Research and Evaluation Help Desk will also offer a series of &ldquo;Open Office Hours&rdquo; in partnership with the United Way of Greater Houston&rsquo;s Coffee and Quality team to community nonprofits to provide Help Desk services in person. In years two and three, the Manager will help create a rotational program with Rice University Master of Social Policy Evaluation students to develop their skills and expertise in working with community nonprofits. This is a three-year, grant-funded position with no guarantee that the position will be funded after the grant ends. All efforts will be made to seek additional funding in order to provide continued support for this position beyond the initial three years.

Position Summary
The Kinder Institute for Urban Research is currently hiring an Associate Director of Demography to join its Houston Population Research Center (HPRC). The HPRC houses the Kinder Institute&rsquo;s demography and survey work, which includes the Greater Houston Community Panel , and the Kinder Houston Area Survey &ndash; the longest-running survey of any major metropolitan area in the nation. Individuals with experience and expertise in designing and programming surveys, cleaning and curating survey data, and developing and conducting survey research projects are encouraged to apply.
The Associate Director will collaborate with the Center Director to lead and work alongside a team of researchers in conducting rigorous, relevant, and innovative research that benefits the Houston area and its residents. To that end, the Associate Director must be comfortable and competent in collaborating with community partners, including nonprofit organizations, government entities, and other local leaders, as well as with residents living in and around the Houston area (and beyond).
The Associate Director will help identify and apply for grant funding opportunities and work toward producing research that is widely accessible, impactful, and used to improve lives. The Associate Director will also help elevate the HPRC&rsquo;s work through professional conferences and academic, peer-reviewed publications. The Associate Director must be a strong communicator and able to reach a wide array of audiences. The role also includes supervising other researchers on the team.
The Kinder Institute for Urban Research aims to improve lives through data, research, engagement, and action. The institute is currently working to build out five research centers focused on critical aspects shaping the social and cultural landscape of the Houston area. The five centers will research housing , education , community and public health , economic mobility and inequality , and population dynamics . Each center will investigate its topic area and will work across centers.
To achieve this, each center is building interdisciplinary teams specializing in solutions-oriented research using a partnership model. This model works to jointly design, develop, and conduct research that values diversity in expertise and prioritizes the community in identifying and addressing the most pressing questions and challenges facing the Houston area. The goal is for the institute&rsquo;s research to inform decision-making and bring about systemic change.
The ideal candidate excels in demographic methods, advanced statistical analysis, research methodologies, and data management, with strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills to deliver impactful research.

Hiring Range
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position with a salary range of $100,000 to $110,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.

The Professional Science Master&rsquo;s (PSM) Program Administrator reports to the Executive Director and serves as the operational lead for the program, guiding strategic growth, enrollment planning, and overall program development. Using data-informed decision-making, the role supports long-term sustainability by aligning enrollment strategy, marketing performance, and resource planning with institutional goals.
The position drives external engagement and growth through corporate relations, strategic partnerships, student recruitment, and targeted advertising initiatives. This includes managing and optimizing marketing campaigns through platforms such as Google Ads and Google Analytics to evaluate performance, monitor return on investment, and inform recruitment strategies. The incumbent represents the program at industry conferences, recruitment fairs, and external events, requiring occasional travel and strong outward-facing engagement skills.
In addition, the PSM Program Administrator oversees fiscal management to maintain the program&rsquo;s financial health, including budgeting, forecasting, expense tracking, ledger reconciliation, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with institutional policies.
The role also manages core administrative functions such as seminar coordination, event planning and execution, student lifecycle management (from recruitment through graduation), application review coordination, and oversight of lecturer hiring and compensation processes.
