<div><div>CLASS TITLE: ASSISTANT SOLICITOR III</div><div>
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS</div><div>
The purpose of the class is to assist the Solicitor and Deputy Solicitor in coordinating and supervising the activities of the Solicitor&rsquo;s Office and coordinating office resources in order to ensure the prosecution of cases in a proper, efficient and orderly manner; to prepare and prosecute criminal cases, and to perform related professional, administrative and supervisory work as required. This class works within broad policy and organizational guidelines and does independent planning and implementation, reporting progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings.</div><div>
ESSENTIAL TASKS</div><div>
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.</div><div>
Assists in coordinating and supervising the activities of the Solicitor&rsquo;s Office and coordinating office resources in order to ensure the prosecution of cases in a proper, efficient and orderly manner; assists in ensuring department compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations.</div><div>
Supervises subordinate staff as assigned. Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; acting on employee problems; and recommending employee discipline.</div><div>
Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers training, advice and assistance as needed.</div><div>
Interprets complex legal and policy issues and maintains detailed knowledge of changes in pertinent legal doctrine.</div><div>
Supervises criminal prosecutions through case planning and preparation; oversees the disposition of complex criminal cases in Circuit Court.</div><div>
Prepares and tries major criminal cases; supervises preparation for and presentations to the Grand Jury; prepares indictments; conducts pre-trial conferences; negotiates with attorneys; diagnoses cases and determines best case strategies; conducts preliminary hearings; oversees and participates in case investigation, including crime scene investigation, interviewing witnesses and victims, and examining evidence; researches legal issues affecting cases; applies the law to facts of a criminal case; determines sentence desired; evaluates and prepares witnesses for trial; selects juries, etc.</div><div>
Prepares bench warrants, affidavits, search warrants, legal briefs, motions, orders, petitions, subpoenas, court dockets, indictments, guilty plea sheets, agreements, and other legal documents.</div><div>
Presents and argues prepared cases in court as assigned.</div><div>
Works closely with victim advocates ensuring that services are provided to ensure compliance with the Victim&rsquo;s Bill of Rights.</div><div>
Assists law enforcement agencies requiring legal advice about the investigation of any criminal matter.</div><div>
Receives and responds to difficult and sensitive client or public inquiries, concerns and complaints.</div><div>
Assists in coordinating department activities and functions with those of other County Departments, municipalities and outside agencies as appropriate.</div><div>
Plans and gives presentations to various community / civic organizations as requested.</div><div>
Maintains files; compiles data for and prepares various reports and statistics as required by the Department, County and/or other agencies.</div><div>
Attends professional conferences, training, seminars, workshops, etc., as necessary to maintain job knowledge and skills.</div><div>
Position is on-call 24/7.</div><div>
All other duties as assigned.</div><div><br>
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION</div><div>
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:</div><div>
Requires Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.</div><div>
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:</div><div>
Must possess and maintain current membership in the S.C. Bar Association.<br>
