<div>General Function

The Personal Trainer position is an important role at the YMCA. Under the direction of the Healthy Living Director and consistent with the Christian mission, the Personal Trainer is responsible for the safety, supervision, and instruction of all aspects of physical fitness to facility members. 

Know How

Incumbent must pass YMCA background checks and successfully complete and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications or the ability to acquire them within 30 days of employment. Personal Trainer certifications and experience is required. Must have knowledge of basic fitness principals.

Purpose &amp; Objectives

Each person is employed as a staff member because the administration feels he/she will conscientiously assist in the fulfillment of the YMCA&rsquo;s mission by:
<ul><li>
Instruct an organized fitness workout with proper technique and instruction, adjusted as necessary for various fitness levels.</li><li>
Trainers instruct their clients through purposefully constructed exercise sessions based on each individual&rsquo;s goals, continually assessing and documenting fitness, body composition, and overall progress.</li><li>
Trainers are also expected to provide general health guidance and to direct clients to seek the proper professional help when it is appropriate.</li><li>
Explain safety rules on how to use the exercise equipment properly and execute individual fitness program design in a safe and effective way.
</li><li>Passion for helping people achieve their fitness goals.</li><li>
Excellent oral and written communication skills.</li><li>
Reliable, self-motivated, and self-starter.
</li><li>Outgoing personality with a natural ability to build positive and trusting relationships with members, guests &amp; staff.
</li><li>Report any problems or safety concerns to Healthy Living Director.</li><li>
Strong customer service skills and the ability to promote programs and services.
</li><li>Willing to work flexible work hours based on clients availability. Ability to work irregular work hours, including nights and weekends on occasion.</li><li>
Ability to &ldquo;spot&rdquo; participants.
</li><li>Assist in daily operations as needed with ongoing programs</li><li>
Carry out other duties as assigned by supervisor or executive level leadership
</li><li>Attends staff meetings, trainings and special events as outlined upon hire date.</li></ul></div>
