The Meter Service Technician supports the reliability of the City&rsquo;s electric and water services by performing critical field operations, including service connections, disconnections, and meter troubleshooting. The role ensures accurate utility data through advanced metering verification and communication system support. By maintaining essential equipment, documenting field activities, and assisting with meter reading, this position helps safeguard service continuity and promotes efficient utility operations.<br>
<br>
<b>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</b><br>
<br>
<ul><li>Coordinates and completes utility service orders, including service connections, disconnections, meter installations, and repairs, to ensure timely and accurate service delivery.</li><li>Performs disconnection and reconnection of utility services in accordance with payment status and service instructions, ensuring compliance with utility policies.</li><li>Troubleshoots and maintains Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems using field technology to support accurate data transmission and meter functionality.</li><li>Conducts manual meter readings and inspections to supplement automated systems, identify service issues, and ensure billing accuracy.</li><li>Identifies and reports meter tampering, leaks, and other service irregularities through routine field inspections and customer interactions.</li><li>Maintains clear and professional communication with customers, responding to inquiries and service issues both during and outside of regular business hours.</li><li>Captures and updates geographic data for new meter installations using GPS-enabled devices to support accurate utility mapping and asset management.</li><li>Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment in safe, clean, and operational condition, completing regular inspections and documentation.</li><li>Provides training and guidance to new team members to support consistent service standards and operational knowledge.</li><li>Completes required documentation, including timekeeping, service records, and inspection reports, using mobile and desktop technology.</li></ul><br>

<b>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS &amp; PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</b><br>

The City of San Marcos is accepting applications for <b>Lateral Entry Firefighter</b>. Candidates must hold <b>TCFP Firefighter</b> and <b>EMT-Basic or higher (DSHS or National Registry)</b> certifications and have <b>at least one year</b> of full-time experience in a comparable fire or EMS agency.<br>
<br>
<b>Salary:</b> $66,461-$80,961 annually (base pay only).<br>
<b>Hiring Incentive:</b> $5,000 total ($2,500 at hire + $2,500 after probation).<br>
<b>Schedule:</b> 24 hours on / 48 hours off<br>

<b>Eligibility Requirements:</b> <br>
The Lateral Entry Program will help recruit qualified dual certified Firefighter/EMT Basics or higher. As a part of the hiring process, the Fire Chief will meet with the background investigator to confirm that the applicant meets the criteria to take advantage of this program.<br>

A. Applicants must: Be dual certified: Firefighter (TCFP) and EMT Basic (or higher) (National Registry or DSHS Certification).Have at least one (1) year prior full-time work experience with similar duties in a comparable fire and/or EMS agency; one completed year of experience will qualify for advancing one step to a maximum of 8 steps (Step 19.08).Must not have had a break in service as a Firefighter and/or EMT Basic (or higher) of more than 180 days prior to the applicant's conditional job offer.<b> ** All certifications must be attached to the application.</b><br>
