<div>Siena Catholic Schools of Racine is seeking a reliable, hard working custodian willing to work 1st shift during the school day from 6:00am - 2:00pm. This is a calendar year position and works year round, including summers.

Position Summary:
The Custodian is responsible for the long and short term cleaning and light maintenance of the buildings and grounds to ensure a safe, clean and physically attractive learning and working environment. This position works first or second shift from September through May and first shift June-August and on all school breaks. This position performs all custodial tasks in classrooms, hallways, lobbies, washrooms, offices, cafeterias, gyms, entrances and other areas. It also has some responsibility for light maintenance work, as necessary. Handles all work duties in a safe and timely manner and enforces all health/safety codes and requirements. While this position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor there is partnership with the school Principal(s) who may have input on daily tasks, time off requests and performance reviews.
Essential Duties &amp; Responsibilities<ul><li> Safely performs all custodial tasks in classrooms, hallways, lobbies, washrooms, offices, cafeterias, gyms, entrances and other areas according to a regular schedule and with minimum supervision. Activities include mopping, dusting, vacuuming, washing, sweeping, sanitizing, snow removal, and others. This may require working outside of normal school hours, including occasional weekends</li><li> Complete daily work task checklist and provide it to the Maintenance Supervisor daily. Annotate any items not completed and any outstanding items for action</li><li> Participates in all phases of the summer cleaning program to include stripping and waxing floors, painting, window washing, deep cleaning, etc. This could include work at other school sites as assigned.</li><li> Move furniture or equipment within buildings, as required, for various activities and as directed by the principal or head custodian</li><li> Assists in the preparation for school activities and events including set-up and take down, and the collecting and disposing of all trash in and around the interior of the school and surrounding property/playground areas. This may require working outside of normal school hours, including occasional weekends</li><li> Shovels ice and snow during the winter season and performs general grounds care</li><li> Operates and maintains floor cleaning equipment and/or associated tools necessary for cleaning</li><li> Checks for and reports all needs for maintenance, electrical, plumbing, structural or other problems to the Maintenance Supervisor or Director of Operations. Brings immediate attention to anything which may be a health and/or safety concern to the school Principal</li><li> Regularly monitors the Siena maintenance database for maintenance and cleaning requests. Evaluates all requests within 24 hrs to determine urgency and extent of work requested.</li><li> Performs minor maintenance with minimal supervision. Performs basic preventative maintenance of school equipment (floor scrubbers, unit ventilators, compressors, boilers, etc.) as directed by work checklists and Siena Maintenance Supervisor. Reports maintenance tasks requiring higher skill levels to Siena Maintenance Supervisor or Director of Operations</li><li> Coordinates the procurement of cleaning supplies with the Maintenance Supervisor. Maintains neat and orderly custodial/maintenance work areas (janitor&rsquo;s cleaning closets, maintenance rooms and work benches, mechanical rooms, etc.)</li><li> Secure the building daily &ndash; doors inside and outside. If applicable, activate/deactivate security alarms without supervision</li><li> Communicates regularly and responds (if directed) in a professional manner with the Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Operations or Principal on projects, special events, supplies/equipment needed and any other support required to perform responsibilities. Be accessible during work hours via cell phone (if receiving a phone stipend) or hand-held radio</li><li> Occasionally on call for emergencies outside of regular work hours. If receiving a phone stipend, will answer and respond to messages in a timely manner</li><li> Escorts custodial and maintenance contractors as necessary to perform work inside and outside of school grounds</li><li> Represents Siena in a positive manner by interacting professionally, effectively and appropriately with members of administration, teachers, students, their families, outside contractors and others with whom this position interacts</li><li> Actively participates in staff training and attends mandatory meetings as required unless excused by supervisor or on scheduled/approved time off</li><li> Monitor school areas for evidence of pest activity and report to supervisor or visiting pest management company when they provide service</li><li> Assist with building security issues during emergencies by evacuating the building (if necessary) and providing information to emergency responders to aid in their assistance</li><li> Performs various custodial/maintenance duties at other Siena locations as necessary for long or short-term durations to meet the requirements of Siena Catholic Schools of Racine</li><li> Performs other duties, as assigned</li></ul>
Qualifications<ul><li> High school diploma or equivalent training and/or experience.</li><li> A minimum of 1 year of building services/maintenance experience in a similar environment.</li></ul>
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities<ul><li> Knowledge of basic principles, methods, and techniques pertaining to the cleaning of a school and school grounds</li><li> Understand the equipment, materials and supplies commonly utilized in cleaning</li><li> Familiarity with general maintenance such as changing light bulbs, removing covers on unit ventilators to clean/troubleshoot, changing filters, installing and removing paper product dispensers on walls, troubleshooting electrical/plumbing/HVAC issues and securing bathroom partitions. Report conditions of more complex maintenance problems to Siena Maintenance Supervisor or Director of Operations for resolution</li><li> Follow safe and sanitary work methods and procedures</li><li> Maintain a current and valid driver&rsquo;s license with insurance to use official Siena vehicles in the performance of official business</li><li> Third-Class Facilities Engineer License preferred</li><li> Must be able to organize multiple priorities and prioritize their own time to accomplish varied tasks. Communicate regularly to supervisors for guidance on priorities</li><li> Must have superior custodial skills and attention to detail</li><li> Must be able to operate hand tools, buffers &amp; scrubbers, and basic power equipment and to meet the physical demands as described below and in this job description</li><li> Must have good communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to conduct him/herself in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of Siena&rsquo;s mission as well as its desire to maintain a healthy, safe, positive work environment for everyone</li><li> Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed</li><li> Must be comfortable with computers, email and other applications for sending and receiving communications</li><li> Must be able to successfully complete &ldquo;Safeguarding All God&rsquo;s Children&rdquo; training provided by the Milwaukee Archdiocese.</li></ul>
Work Environment/Physical Demands<ul><li> Able to lift, use and/or carry tools, equipment, furniture, supplies or materials up to 50 lbs, possibly including up/down steps</li><li> Able to maneuver furniture, appliances, tools or other equipment up to a distance of several hundred feet with or without the use of assistive tools (such as dollies and hand/utility carts)</li><li> Able to stand, walk (sometimes on uneven surfaces), crouch, bend, kneel, and go up/down stairs and ladders</li><li> Able to reach vertically and horizontally</li><li> Able to perform snow removal and lawn care/landscaping, manually or with the help of motorized equipment</li><li> May be exposed to extreme heat, cold, noise, vibration, dust, chemicals</li><li> Able to communicate verbally with colleagues</li><li> Good hearing and eyesight</li><li> Able to read/interpret digital and paper documents</li><li> Physical dexterity to operate a computer and other equipment</li><li> Able to work longer hours on occasion, as needed</li><li> Ability to travel between different school sites and Siena&rsquo;s office, if needed</li><li> Subject to drug/alcohol test as listed in Siena Employee Handbook</li></ul></div>
