Job Title: WordPress / WooCommerce Web Developer (Contract or Part-Time)Overview: We are seeking an experienced WordPress/WooCommerce web developer to upgrade and optimize our existing shopping cart system to a modern, stable, and user-friendly WooCommerce-based eCommerce platform. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in WordPress, WooCommerce customization, and performance optimization, with attention to clean UI/UX and reliability.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Migrate and/or upgrade the existing shopping cart to WordPress + WooCommerce</li><li>Configure WooCommerce products, categories, attributes, and variations</li><li>Customize WooCommerce templates, checkout flow, and cart behavior as needed</li><li>Ensure compatibility with existing themes (or assist with theme refinement)</li><li>Optimize site performance, security, and responsiveness</li><li>Configure payment gateways, tax settings, shipping rules, and email notifications</li><li>Ensure proper handling of digital and/or physical products</li><li>Troubleshoot plugin conflicts and resolve WooCommerce-related issues</li><li>Implement best practices for SEO, accessibility, and scalability</li><li>Provide documentation and basic training upon project completion</li></ul>Required Qualifications<ul><li>Proven experience developing with WordPress and WooCommerce</li><li>Strong knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript</li><li>Experience with WooCommerce hooks, filters, and custom plugins</li><li>Familiarity with popular WooCommerce plugins (payment gateways, shipping, caching, security)</li><li>Experience migrating data (products, customers, orders) between platforms</li><li>Ability to work independently and meet deadlines</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications<ul><li>Experience with Blocksy Pro, and Gutenberg-based themes</li><li>Familiarity with WooCommerce CSS customization and image handling</li><li>Experience supporting scientific, technical, or B2B eCommerce sites</li><li>Knowledge of performance tools (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed, Redis, etc.)</li><li>Experience with staging/production workflows and backups</li></ul>Project Scope (Example)<ul><li>Upgrade existing shopping cart to WooCommerce</li><li>Standardize product layout and thumbnails</li><li>Improve checkout experience and cart reliability</li><li>Ensure mobile-friendly design</li><li>Final QA testing before launch</li></ul>Engagement Type<ul><li>Contract / Freelance (project-based)</li><li>Potential for ongoing maintenance and future enhancements</li></ul>Pay: From $150.00 per hourExpected hours: No more than 36.0 per weekWork Location: Hybrid remote in Frederick, MD 21703
