 General Overview
 
 
 
 
 
 
 This is a "hybrid" position responsible for the overall administration of the Human Resources function of approximately 350 employees for the Northeast Region (Northern NJ, NYC, CT, RI, MA, Eastern PA, and Upstate NY
 
 )
 
 . The bulk of the time will be spent 3-4 days per week at two Sims Metal locations in Newark, NJ, and Jersey City, NJ. Occasional travel to other locations will be required as necessary.
 
 
 The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for employee relations, labor relations, upholding company policy and practices, and partnering with the following support functions:
 
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Talent Acquisition function or onboarding of new employees, employee development, retention, and engagement initiatives
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Payroll and Benefits departments to facilitate applicable processes for assigned employee groups,
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Labor Relations function for employee relations, grievance resolution, and contract negotiations.
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 
 
 
 
 Responsibilities
 
 
 
 
 
 
 Performs tasks required to administer and execute human resources programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; training and development; employee relations counseling; and conducts exit interviews.
 
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Plans, organizes, and controls all department activities for the client group.
 </li>
 <li>
 Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems
 </li>
 <li>
 In conjunction with NAM Talent Acquisition, conducts onboarding activities for all exempt, nonexempt, and temporary workers.
 </li>
 <li>
 Establishes and maintains department records and reports.
 </li>
 <li>
 Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings, such as seminars.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintains organizational charts and employee directories.
 </li>
 <li>
 Evaluates reports, decisions, and results of department initiatives in relation to established goals.
 </li>
 <li>
 Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of the department and services performed
 </li>
 <li>
 In conjunction with NAM Labor Relations, represents management in investigations, answering and settling grievances through grievance hearings between union personnel, supervisor, and the management team.
 </li>
 <li>
 Active participation in contract negotiations in support of the NAM Director of Labor Relations.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintains working relationships with union officials and adheres to terms of the labor contract by monitoring the day-to-day implementation of policies concerning work conditions.
 </li>
 <li>
 Coaches, counsels, and guides managers before executing employee disciplinary actions.
 </li>
 <li>
 Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
 </li>
 <li>
 Coordinates all human resources training programs.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides necessary education and materials to managers and employees, including workshops and presentations for legal, compliance, and company policy.
 </li>
 <li>
 Conducts investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists in organizing and participating in community outreach events
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human
 </li>
 <li>
 resources, talent management, and employment law.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs other duties as assigned
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 
 
 
 
 Qualifications
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
 </li>
 <li>
 7+ years' experience in Human Resources
 </li>
 <li>
 Prior HR-related Union experience is mandatory for this position.
 </li>
 <li>
 SHRM Certified Professional Preferred but not required
 </li>
 <li>
 Prior HRIS experience required
 </li>
 <li>
 Demonstrated expertise in training managers and employees
 </li>
 <li>
 Strong organizational, critical thinking, and communications skills
 </li>
 <li>
 Attention to detail and good judgment
 </li>
 </ul>

 Bilingual in English/Spanish is highly preferred.
 </li>
 <li>

 Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
 </li>
 <li>
 Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Excel.
 </li>
 <li>
 Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
 </li>
