The Student Union, Inc. is 501(c)(3) nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San Jos&eacute; State University in downtown San Jos&eacute;, California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building, the Provident Credit Union Event Center (PCUEC), and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The Student Union, Inc. functions as part of the Student Affairs Division on campus, and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority, faculty, and administrators.</div><div>

<b>Job Summary</b><br>
The Web Content &amp; Digital Marketing Assistant is primarily responsible for maintaining and updating the Student Union website to ensure all content is current, user-friendly, accessible, and compliant with relevant laws and guidelines, including proper attribution of third-party materials. This position also supports digital marketing efforts by coordinating and developing written and visual communication materials such as social media content, publications, and multimedia presentations. The role focuses on creating and sharing content that enhances the Student Union brand, increases awareness of programs and services, and promotes campus events and marketing campaigns. The student assistant supports the mission of the Student Union, Inc. to connect, engage, and inspire Spartan pride within the SJSU community.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
Essential Functions and Tasks</b></div><ul>
<li>Ensure that all created and shared content complies with copyright, trademark, and privacy laws, including proper attribution of third-party materials.</li>
<li>Provide timely responses to posts on various Student Union social media channels.</li>
<li>Create and manage content to platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.</li>
<li>Track and report on social media metrics.</li>
<li>Attend Student Union and campus events to post live information on social media channels.</li>
<li>Work with Student Union, Inc. staff in writing and producing manuals and other information for internal or external distribution.</li>
<li>Promote online campaigns, surveys, application forms and other links.</li>
<li>Stay current on campus-wide communications, news, blogs, and social media pages and share relevant/timely information with Student Union audience.</li>
<li>Update content on Student Union home page and department pages: regularly post, monitor and evaluate content: announcements, events, web banners, navigation, graphic images, videos, documents.</li>
<li>Work to keep consistent design and format on all department pages.</li>
<li>Ensure that key messages are applied consistently throughout the website.</li>
<li>Communicate regularly in person and via email with other Student Union staff, clients, photographers, copywriters, and web developers.</li>
<li>Stay updated about new social media platforms, current trends, techniques, and strategies in social media.</li>
<li>Incorporate relevant strategies and/or suggest new platforms for reaching target audiences.</li></ul><br>

Qualifications</b></h3><div><b><br>
Minimum Qualifications</b></div><ul>
<li>Proven experience using social media platforms applicable to a university environment.</li>
<li>Must have academic and practical knowledge; and/or experience in photography, typography, illustration, layout, and production for print, digital media, and web design.</li>
<li>Experience in Google systems and Microsoft Office Suite.</li>
<li>Must be a matriculated SJSU student and continuously enrolled at least half-time* during the academic term.<ul><li><ul><li>Half-time is defined as follows: Enrollment Status Half-time Units Undergraduate and Post baccalaureate Students 6.0-8.0 hours/semester</li></ul></li></ul>
</li></ul><div><b>Preferred Qualification</b></div><ul>
<li>Concentration in Web Design, Journalism, Communications, English, Public Relations or Marketing preferred.</li>
<li>Employment for two semesters or more is highly preferred.</li>
<li>Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS).</li>
<li>Basic understanding of copywriting, copyright and fair use principles as they apply to web and social media content.</li>
</ul><div><b>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)</b></div><ul>
<li>Strong copywriting and editing skills.</li>
<li>Must be detail oriented.</li>
<li>Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in team settings.</li>
<li>Adept at using or learning Canva Pro to create social media graphics.</li>
<li>At ease with social media applications.</li>
<li>Ability to translate complex information into concise, audience-friendly messaging.</li>
<li>Good organizational skills: ability to prioritize and complete assigned work duties and handle a variety of tasks.</li>
<li>Proficient verbal and written communication skills.</li>
<li>Capacity to work effectively in a university environment, including its programs and services, requirements and procedures, and the overall mission and goals of an educational institution.</li>
<li>Requires excellent time management skills (deadline-driven).</li><br>

Physical Demands and Work Environment</b></div><ul>
<li>The position works in a wide variety of environments including both a typical office as well as indoor facility in a program-oriented environment.<ul><li>
The physical demands of this position are described below<ul>
<li>Sitting, walking, twisting, bending, climbing, pulling, pushing, squatting, crawling, kneeling, balancing, reaching, and coordination (eye, hand, foot).</li>
<li>Fall (Slip, Trip) Conditions that result in falls (impacts) from height or traditional walking and playing surfaces.</li>
<li>Lifting and carrying, often 10-25lbs, frequently 26-50lbs, occasionally 50-75 lbs.</li>
<li>Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.</li>
<li>Dexterity of hands, fingers, and wrists to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.</li>
</ul></li></ul></li><li>In general, the position works a schedule based on business needs 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, and may require evening and weekend work as needed.<ul>
<li>When school is in session - may work up to, but not in excess of 20 hours per week (among all concurrent positions).</li>
<li>When classes are not in session (i.e. summer break) may work up to, but not in excess of 40 hours per week.</li>
</ul></li><li>This position is non-exempt from the provisions of Section 1 of the California Industrial Welfare Commission Orders.</li></ul><br>

Student Union employees are required to undergo and complete a successful background check that includes verification of employment and education, as well as a check of criminal records for employment. Candidates for positions where the employee will come in regular contact with minors and cash management will be required to be fingerprinted. This policy includes emergency hires and may also be applicable to volunteers depending on the work performed. In some cases, the background check will include a credit check and/or a Department of Motor Vehicles check, as well as a check of licenses and certificates when applicable. All background checks are conducted through the Student Union third-party vendor, Accurate Background.</div><div>
