This position supervises/manages: None 
Job Summary: Responsible for providing daily routine care for animals under veterinary care in the general shelter population. Perform intake medical and behavior evaluations and intake diagnostics/treatments in compliance with established protocols. 
Summary of Essential Responsibilities:<ul><li> Care for, feed, monitor and medicate shelter animals.</li><li> Perform all work in accordance with SPCA of Texas protocol.</li><li> Humanely treat and care for all animals entrusted to the SPCA of Texas.</li><li> Evaluate animals medically and behaviorally; assess overall condition; clip nails, screen for parasites, clean ears.</li><li> Administer medications and vaccines as directed.</li><li> Perform point-of-care tests, distal blood draws and fecal testing.</li><li> Report observed behavior issues to supervisor and/or veterinarians.</li><li> Fill in for other areas/positions by performing tasks/functions as needed.</li><li> Actively engage with volunteers in such a way that provides support for our volunteers and staff and proactively improves our volunteer program.</li><li> Be an ambassador for the SPCA of Texas, sharing the work and mission with your friends and family and be knowledgeable of the various ways to support our work.</li></ul> 
Summary of Essential Job Tasks:<ul><li> Must possess clear verbal and written communication skills to ensure accurate reporting of staff, animal health, or equipment concerns.</li><li> Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior.</li><li> Collect, prepare and label samples for laboratory testing, culture or microscopic examination.</li><li> Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.</li><li> Follow all written and verbally communicated departmental standard operating procedures.</li></ul> 
Abilities Required:<ul><li> Static Strength: the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 40 pounds.</li><li> Judgment and Decision Making: the ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.</li><li> Oral and Written Expression: the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.</li><li> Monitoring: the ability to monitor and assess the performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.</li><li> Emotional and Mental Requirements: the ability to work effectively under stressful conditions. Ability to rapidly and accurately process information.</li></ul> 
Applicant Information:<ul><li> The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week. Shift times may vary and include weekend hours.</li></ul></div> 

Normally scheduled 5 days per week, 8 hours per day between the hours of 7am and 7pm.</div>

Veterinary Technician Assistant

This position supervises/manages: None 
Job Summary: Licensed veterinarian responsible for providing veterinary care for owned or sheltered animals. May be responsible for performing surgeries that include dentals, spay/neuter or other soft tissue surgeries. 
Summary of Essential Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Performs all work in accordance with SPCA of Texas protocol.</li><li>
Humanely treat and care for all animals entrusted to the SPCA of Texas.</li><li>
Perform medical care to include, but not limited to, routine and sick examinations, preventative care, emergency triage and stabilization, heartworm treatment, dental procedures and soft tissue surgery.</li><li>
Administer and accurately monitor controlled substances.</li><li>
Maintain and complete patient records.</li><li>
Provide hands-on training, guidance, and mentorship to veterinary externs, fostering their clinical development and ensuring a supportive learning environment.</li><li>
Deliver exceptional customer service to both internal team members and external clients, consistently demonstrating kindness, compassion, and a commitment to positive communication.</li><li>
Serve as mentor to technical support staff.</li><li>
Be an ambassador for the SPCA of Texas, sharing the work and mission with your friends and family and be knowledgeable of the various ways to support our work.</li></ul>

Perform physical examinations and diagnostic/medical procedures in a way that will deliver the highest quality care within the shelter while minimizing patient stress and discomfort.</li><li>
Maintain medical standards of care as set forth by SPCA of Texas protocol.</li><li>
Be able and willing to examine, diagnose, and treat disease and injuries of shelter animals that include, but not limited to, dogs, cats, livestock and exotics.</li><li>
Serve as a resource for the development of protocols regarding sanitary measures, feeding, disease prevention and population management.</li><li>
Understand and maintain confidentiality rules regarding all animals as set forth by SPCA of Texas protocol.</li><li>
Understand and practice &lsquo;herd health&rdquo; principles as well as individual animal care.</li><li>
Follow all written and verbally communicated departmental standard operating procedures.</li></ul>

Applicant Information:<ul><li>
Applicant must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent.</li><li>
Licensure in good standing to practice in the state of Texas, including Texas Veterinary License and DEA license or the ability to obtain both before the start of employment.</li><li>
Applicant must provide proof of and maintain personal liability insurance.</li><li>
Strong proficiency in medical knowledge and surgical skills.</li><li>
