POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Materials Management Technician assists the Director of Materials Management in operating the Materials Management Department in the most efficient and cost effective manner. 
REPORTS TO: Director of Materials Management, Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt 
Job Requirements:<ul><li>
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required 2 years experience in materials handling or purchasing</li><li>
Knowledge of operating a personal computer and related software required.</li></ul> 
Required Skills: 
 Excellent oral and written communication skills<ul><li>
Familiarity with organization and functions of each hospital department</li><li>
Ability to problem-solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner</li><li>
Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments</li></ul>
Essential Functions:<ul><li>
Reconciles pricing/quantity/item discrepancies for non-storeroom orders placed through CSC (Customer Service Center &ndash; Nashville, TN).</li><li>
Forwards necessary price adjustments and updates to the SMART item master to CSC.</li><li>
Processes special purchase requests, scans and files documentation through GHX as necessary. Maintains, orders, and stocks for designated clean supply areas according to predetermined schedule.</li><li>
Checks for expiring product.</li><li>
Updates departmental SMART PARS with product changes, additions and deletions.</li><li>
Checks SMART backorder file against pending purchasing file; contacts vendor on backorders.</li><li>
Work with recalls as back up for MM Specialist, notifying appropriate depts, reporting to EOC and obtaining new product.</li><li>
Pulls items from storeroom as necessary.</li><li>
Setup new items through VIRA as needed.</li><li>
Prints charge labels for storeroom billable items as needed. Insuring contract compliance.</li><li>
Compiles reports including Optiflex activity report as directed by Materials Manager.</li><li>
Maintains tissue/bone receiving log. Backup for ordering all stock items.</li><li>
Backup for delivering items.</li><li>
Works closely with Director of Materials Management with new projects as they arise.</li><li>
Research items for Department Managers to find best items for them with contract pricing, samples.</li><li>
Issues pagers as back up, maintains pager list and notifies appropriate personnel of any changes.</li><li>
Check and approve Staple orders as needed for all departments and all off site facilities.</li><li>
Help conduct yearend inventory for all supply areas.</li><li>
Answers the telephone, directs calls, and takes messages.</li><li>
Cross trains on all aspects of the Purchasing office.</li><li>
Works well with others; assists coworkers when needed; complies with supervisor&rsquo;s requests; communicates well with personnel, patients, visitors, and physicians.</li><li>
Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices.</li></ul>

Work requires physical ability as walking, standing, sitting, etc.</li><li>
Involves mental activity and problem-solving</li><li>
Talking and listening are essential in instructing and supervising personnel</li><li>
May be exposed to injury by irrational or disturbed patients, patients with communicable diseases, and/or potentially dangerous equipment</li><li>
Risk of exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials</li><li>
Walking and standing for long periods of time depending on workload.</li><li>
Walking intermittently through halls of hospital and outside</li><li>
Sitting for long periods of time throughout day Transport (lift, carry, store) materials weighing up to 75 pounds to and from the pharmacy to nursing units and storage areas</li><li>
Bending required frequently, 45-90 degree angles, to check patients and operate machinery</li><li>
Reading and writing required regularly to follow job description</li></ul>
