They will serve as role models for staff and act in a people centered, service excellence-focused and results oriented manner.Position Summary:Perform general police work on all St. Croix Tribal trust lands to maintain public safety through the enforcement of Federal and State laws and Tribal ordinances.Essential Functions:<ul><li>Patrol assigned areas</li><li>Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including crimes in progress, accidents, medical emergencies, disturbances and all other public safety related calls.</li><li>Assist other Law Enforcement Agencies through Mutual Aid as requested</li><li>Conduct preliminary investigations and follow-up on reported incidents</li><li>Actively engage with community members and groups to build partnerships and participate in events.</li><li>Enforce Federal, State, Tribal laws and ordinances within the jurisdiction</li><li>Issue citations, warnings, and make arrests when necessary</li><li>Prepare detailed and accurate reports for documentation and for review by prosecutors</li><li>Collect and process evidence and property</li><li>Testify in court or other hearings as requested</li><li>Collaborate with other Law Enforcement Agencies, Emergency Services, Tribal Groups, or other groups with vested interest in the St. Croix Tribe</li><li>Assist other departments as needed, including Wisconsin Probation and Parole, Tribal Courts, DVSA, ICW, Tribal Housing and other departments as needed</li><li>Serve and enforce arrest warrants and search warrants</li><li>Attend training as required in firearms, emergency vehicle operation, legal updates and all other certifications as needed</li><li>All other duties as assigned by supervisors</li></ul>Police Officer Job Duties:<ul><li>Patrol Tribal Lands to deter and detect criminal activity</li><li>Enforce criminal and non-criminal traffic laws</li><li>Enforce Tribal, State, Federal Laws and ordinances</li><li>Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service</li><li>Investigate criminal activity, including interviews, evidence collection, completing detailed reports and making arrest</li><li>Complete arrests and transport inmates to the appropriate detention facility</li><li>Build relationships with community members to establish trust and communication</li><li>Attend community events and outreach programs</li><li>Coordinate with other Law Enforcement agencies</li><li>Assist other Law Enforcement or emergency service provider as requested</li><li>Maintain certifications</li><li>Attend trainings as requested or as required by the DOJ</li><li>Complete special assignments through supervisors</li><li>Assist Tribal Court as a bailiff as needed</li><li>Testify as a witness in court for preliminary hearings, motion hearings, jury trials for Federal, State and Tribal Courts</li><li>Maintain relationships with programs including Tribal DVSA, Tribal Housing, Tribal Courts, GLIFWC, and other surrounding Law Enforcement agencies and emergency service providers</li><li>Maintain proper working order of and equipment, vehicle and firearms issued by the St. Croix Tribal Police Department</li><li>Complete detailed incident reports</li><li>Preserve and collect evidence related to a crime</li><li>Any other duties assigned by supervisor or Chief of Police</li></ul>Note: The essential functions are intended to describe the general contents of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Specific tasks or responsibilities will be documented as outlined by the incumbent&rsquo;s immediate manager.Type of Supervisory Responsibilities: NoneSupervisory Responsibilities: NoneDirectly Reporting to: Patrol Supervisor and/or Chief of PoliceMatrix of INDIRECT Reporting: St. Croix Tribal CouncilScope and Complexity:Upholding standards of integrity, service and honor to the community members through transparency and accountabilityPhysical Demands/Environment Factors: <ul><li>Ability to walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch for extended periods of time while patrolling, completing investigations or responding to emergencies</li><li>Occasionally run, often over uneven terrain or in varying weather conditions</li><li>Occasionally lift, carry, or drag objects weighing up to 100 pounds</li><li>Occasionally lift, carry, or drag individuals weighing over 100 pounds</li><li>Ability to use physical force techniques to restrain individuals</li><li>Sit for long periods of time while patrolling or completing at desk related tasks</li><li>Stand for long periods of time during calls or events</li><li>Perform under physical and mental stress in potentially dangerous situations</li><li>Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold as well as rain, snow, sleet and wind</li><li>Potential exposure to hazards including, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, water, fire, firearms, edged weapons or physically aggressive individuals</li><li>Exposure to environments with high noise levels, including emergency sirens, gun fire, and crowds</li><li>Work shifts that extend past midnight, into the early morning</li></ul>Minimum Qualifications:<ul><li>Must be 21 years or older</li><li>60 college credits within 5 years of hiring</li><li>Must hold certification or be certifiable as a Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Wisconsin</li><li>Pass a formal background investigation</li><li>Submit to drug testing during application process and subject to random testing</li><li>Free from and physical, emotional, or mental health conditions that would adversely affect the performance of Law Enforcement duties</li><li>Must possess a valid driver&rsquo;s license with an insurable driving record</li><li>No felony convictions or domestic abuse convictions</li><li>Ability to use radio equipment, computer equipment and telephone equipment</li><li>Proficient in verbal and written communication skills</li><li>Ability to multi-task while being detail oriented</li><li>Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports</li><li>Ability to handle stressful situations under time constraints with absence of supervision</li><li>Must maintain confidentiality of organizational information</li><li>Ability to maintain proficiency in required qualifications including but not limited to firearms and emergency vehicle operation</li><li>Show awareness of St. Croix Tribal culture and history</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>Completion of a two-year associate degree from an accredited Collegiate or Technical School in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement or higher</li><li>Active certification as Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Wisconsin</li></ul>Native American Preference Given in Accordance with P.L. 93-638 and AmendmentsThe offer is conditional based on confirmation that the candidate meets all specific criteria required (background check, driver&rsquo;s insurability verification, references, identity verification, and other applicable requirements).Job Type: Full-timePay: $57,387.20 - $72,779.20 per yearBenefits:<ul><li>401(k)</li><li>Dental insurance</li><li>Employee discount</li><li>Flexible spending account</li><li>Health insurance</li><li>Health savings account</li><li>Life insurance</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Vision insurance</li></ul>Work Location: In person
