Position Summary:This position serves as a Library Technician in a medium-sized career college. The Library Technician assists the LRC Manager in helping faculty, staff, and students in the use of Learning Resource Center resources and equipment, and performs routine clerical duties related to the operation of the LRC. Frequently works unsupervised and is expected to solve problems independently. This employee provides information services and circulation services to students and faculty using print and electronic sources.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>Performs tasks assigned by the LRC Manager</li><li>Abides by and enforces the policies and procedures of the LRC and the college</li><li>Maintains good relations with the students and other staff, individually and in general</li><li>Works as a team with the LRC Manager and work-study student workers</li><li>Informs the LRC Manager of any ongoing events or issues that require attention</li><li>Assists students and faculty in the location of print and non-print resources</li><li>Assists in maintaining student LRC check-in records to assess student usage of the LRC</li><li>Answers basic research questions</li><li>Assists students and faculty with minor computer troubleshooting</li><li>Performs circulation duties</li><li>Logs in journals</li><li>Handles routine problems under the guidance of a supervisor</li><li>Keeps supervisor informed of departmental needs and concerns</li><li>Assists in identifying weaknesses in the print collection</li><li>Conducts library orientations for new students and faculty</li><li>Attends pertinent meetings or training courses and undertakes special training activities as directed</li><li>Monitors student use of the library</li><li>Maintains supply of instructional handouts</li><li>Shelves print and audiovisual materials</li><li>Shelves read the print collection</li><li>Assists the LRC Manager in processing and maintaining library collections</li><li>Assists in maintaining the appearance of the LRC</li><li>Assists in training LRC work-study student assistants</li><li>Maintains paper supply in LRC printers</li><li>Assists in the cataloging of print materials</li><li>Maintains active communications with the LRC Manager, including maintenance of work documentation (may include work journal or wiki)</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li><li>Regular and reliable attendance</li></ul>Skills/Competencies/Qualifications:Required:<ul><li>A bachelor degree is required</li><li>Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills</li><li>Proven problem-solving ability</li><li>Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point</li><li>Ability to work independently, without direct supervision</li><li>Proactive, willing to ask questions and accept constructive criticisms</li><li>Ability to communicate clearly in both speaking and writing</li><li>Ability to maintain professional attitude</li><li>Physical mobility to perform light lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, and sitting at a desk.</li><li>Keyboard skills</li><li>Ability to read printed and on-screen information</li><li>Ability to answer the telephone</li></ul>Preferred:<ul><li>Successful experience working in library systems or a combination of other educational programs and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities</li><li>Current enrollment in, or recent completion of, an MLIS program</li><li>Ability to use electronic databases</li><li>Familiarity with online healthcare journal databases</li></ul>Classification: Non-exemptWork Hours: Evenings 4:30pm to 8:30pm, Saturdays, 9am to 3pm; 25-30 hours per weekTravel: NoneWorking Environment: Interior/OfficePay: From $22.00 per hourWork Location: In person
