Performs all other duties to ensure the effective representation of all clients assigned.<br>

Participates in decisions regarding the hiring, disciplining or the termination of employees under her / his supervision;</li><li>

Assists in developing, revising and implementing local procedures for the Appellate or District Public Defender Office;</li><li>
Receives and responds to inquiries from the public concerning the activities of the Appellate or District Public Defender Office and its employees;</li><li>
Receives and responds to complaints from clients and makes decisions on resolution of complaints in consultation with the District Chief Public Defender or State Deputy Public Defender;</li><li>
Assigns cases to insure an even distribution of the workload;</li><li>
Works to resolve court scheduling issues and conflict assignments;</li><li>
Recommends appeals of court rulings; Interviews, trains, mentors and evaluates assigned employees;</li><li>
Maintains liaison with court administration, judges and other managing attorneys;</li><li>

Managing Attorney

Under the direction of the District Chief Public Defender, the First Assistant Attorney is responsible for the administration of public defender services in the division assigned or as first assistant to the Chief District Public Defender, consistent with standards adopted by the State Board of Public Defense, policies and procedures adopted by the State Public Defender, and the direction of the Chief District Public Defender.</p></div>

Determines need for expert witnesses; locates appropriate experts and schedules them for trial if needed; negotiates with County and City Attorneys to reach plea agreements;</li><li>
Consults with social workers, probation officers, judges and referees in order to determine appropriate treatment programs for clients as a part of defense strategy; advises and directs work of law clerks;</li><li>
