 The position of Senior Food Scientist &ndash; Ingredients Innovation is responsible for researching novel processing methods and plant-based ingredients for low-acid aseptic manufacturing. This includes, concept to launch &ndash; managing prototyping, improving manufacturing efficiencies, evaluating new raw materials and working on various research projects. The position requires a proactive, self-starter who is able to work independently with good decision-making skills while coordinating all information required to create and maintain the existing Steuben programs. This job also requires a team player with high standards of excellence and attention to detail.
 
 
 
 Education/Prerequisites Requirements
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 M.S. or Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Processing Technologies or Related Discipline
 </li>
 <li>
 Minimum 3-5 years of experience in ingredients research at a food or beverage company
 </li>
 <li>
 Strong knowledge &amp; experience with analytical chemistry, ingredients processing research and enzymology
 </li>
 <li>
 Plant based product formulation experience
 </li>
 <li>
 Knowledge of plant-based proteins chemistry and extraction
 </li>
 <li>
 High competencies in experimental design and statistics
 </li>
 <li>
 Strong understanding of ingredients manufacturing processes
 </li>
 <li>
 Excellent Planning &amp; Organizing Skills
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to adapt to situations and responsibilities within an ever-growing business
 </li>
 <li>
 Competencies in chromatography such as HPLC, GC/MS and protein analysis such as protein determination, SDS-PAGE, and amino acid characterization.
 </li>
 <li>
 Good Understanding of Food Safety and GLP
 </li>
 <li>
 Analytical, detailed oriented individual
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to work with minimum supervision
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Equipment/Training Knowledge
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Experiences in working in food manufacturing facilities
 </li>
 <li>
 Better Process Control School Certification or other related food processing certification/education
 </li>
 <li>
 Strong computer program(s) knowledge
 </li>
 <li>
 Working knowledge for standard lab equipment
 </li>
 <li>
 Experience working within Food Formulation &amp; Labeling Software
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Work Specifications &ndash; Responsibilities
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Primary responsibility is to conduct research in: improving production efficiency in raw material processing plant, evaluating various different raw materials for novel ingredients manufacturing, and work along with other scientists in analyzing ingredient characteristics such as macro- and micro-nutrient in raw materials.
 </li>
 <li>
 Additional responsible include working with Operations and Quality in evaluating root cause for product stability in terms of product formulation and processing.
 </li>
 <li>
 Key stake holder to successfully manage his/her projects to completion
 </li>
 <li>
 Attend plant trials as needed
 </li>
 <li>
 Keep detailed accurate records
 </li>
 <li>
 Create reports for R&amp;D/Ownership as needed
 </li>
 <li>
 Attend R&amp;D and other key meetings as a technical support role
 </li>
 <li>
 Work closely with Production to understand the equipment (processing, filling and blending) to help facilitate scale up of new and existing products
 </li>
 <li>
 Help Facilitate improvements to resource infrastructure
 </li>
 <li>
 Work in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Schedule

 Monday &ndash; Friday
 </li>
 <li>
 Extended schedule on major projects, as necessary
 </li>
 <li>
 Availability by phone
 </li>
 <li>
 Some travel required to attend trade shows and to support the business as needed
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Salary Range: $100,000 - $125,000
