<div></div><div><b>DEFINITION</b></div>
<div></div><div>Under classroom direction by a Teacher, the Associate Teacher assists in the care, development and instruction of children in a childcare and development program.</div>
<div></div><div><b>CLASS CHARACTERISTICS</b></div>
<div></div><div>Employees in this class, provide assistance to the teacher of record in the Children&rsquo;s Center with direct supervision of children ensuring a healthy and safe learning environment.</div>
<div></div><div><b>REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES</b></div>
<div></div><div><i>The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in the classification, however, employees may perform other related duties not listed and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee.</i></div>
<div></div><div>Assist teachers and primary caregivers as directed.</div>
<div></div><div>Supervise play activities; enforcement of safety rules; participation with children in group games.</div>
<div></div><div>Preparation of supplies and the environment for activities.</div>
<div></div><div>Maintain an orderly environment for the group.</div>
<div></div><div>Observe, record, and report children&rsquo;s behavior.</div>
<div></div><div>Assist children with self-care activities.</div>
<div></div><div>Assist children who have difficulty in the group or who temporarily lose their physical or emotional control.</div>
<div></div><div>Assist with meals and snack service.</div>
<div></div><div>Perform related duties as assigned.</div>
<div></div><div><b>EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS</b></div>
<div><b>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</b></div>
<div>High School Diploma or equivalent.</div>
<div>Must be 18 years old or older.</div>
<div>Must meet educational requirement for California Commission on Teacher Credentialing &ldquo;Associate Teacher&rdquo; permit. (Permit will be required following earned experience hours required.)</div>
<div>Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.</div>
<div></div><div><b>SPECIAL LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS</b></div>
<div><b><i>( All grades in the course work must be a &quot;C&quot; or higher)</i></b></div>
<div>3 semester units in Early Childhood Education and Family Studies (ECEF)</div>
<div>3 semester units in Child/ Human Growth and Development (CD)</div>
<div>3 semester units in an ECEF or CD Program Curriculum</div>
<div></div><div>Satisfactory completion of California Department of Social Services (CDSS) &ldquo;Licensing&rdquo; requirements.</div>
<div></div><div>Hold and maintain a current pediatric CPR and first aid certificate through an accredited or approved program.</div>
<div></div><div><b>DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS</b></div>
<div>3 semester units in &quot;Infancy&quot; coursework.</div>
<div>Bilingual: English/Spanish</div>
<div>Experience working with young children and their families in a professional setting.</div>

<div>Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.</div>

<div>Ability to see for purposes of reading laws, codes, rules, policies, other printed matter and for observing students.</div>

<div></div><div><b>ENVIRONMENT</b></div>
<div>Work is generally performed indoors in a classroom setting or outdoors on a controlled children&rsquo;s playground and may involve traveling offsite for classroom field trips, workshops training's or meetings.</div>
<div></div><div><b>SUPERVISION</b></div>
<div>Direction is received from the classroom Teacher, Master Teacher or Site Supervisor. Supervision is provided by the Director of the Children&rsquo;s Center. No supervision is exercised. Travel for field trips may be required.</div>
