A DAY IN THE LIFE:
The AI Test Automation Intern will join the Systems Integration &amp; Test organization and contribute to the development of AI powered test and analysis tools used to improve software quality, system reliability, and security posture. This role is intended for a student with a background or strong interest in AI/ML engineering and cybersecurity, who is excited to apply these skills to automated test systems, code analysis, and large scale test result data. The intern will work alongside test automation, systems, and security engineers to help design and prototype tools that detect trends, anomalies, and potential risks in test execution and code artifacts&mdash;while ensuring alignment with cybersecurity and regulatory requirements applicable to medical devices. The position emphasizes hands on development, experimentation, and prototyping, rather than traditional manual testing or heavy documentation.
AI Test Automation Interns are also responsible for:<ul><li>
Design and develop AI‑assisted tools or prototypes to analyze:<ul><li>
Automated test results (e.g., failures, instability, regressions, soak trends)</li><li>
Logs, metrics, and system telemetry</li><li>
Source code or test scripts for patterns, risks, or quality gaps</li></ul></li><li>
Apply machine learning, statistical analysis, or heuristic techniques to identify anomalies, trends, or signals that are difficult to detect with traditional rule‑based approaches</li><li>
Assist in integrating AI‑driven analysis into existing test automation pipelines or workflows</li><li>
Explore approaches for automated test prioritization, failure clustering, or root‑cause hints</li><li>
Collaborate with cybersecurity and systems teams to ensure AI tools:<ul><li>
Follow approved data‑handling and access controls</li><li>
Do not expose proprietary, regulated, or sensitive information</li><li>
Align with internal cybersecurity, privacy, and regulatory expectations</li></ul></li><li>
Help evaluate AI tool outputs for accuracy, explainability, and usefulness in a regulated testing environment</li><li>
Implement proof‑of‑concept scripts, services, or utilities to support experimentation</li><li>
Document technical designs, assumptions, and limitations at a level appropriate for engineering handoff and compliance review</li><li>
Use standard development tools (Git, IDEs, issue tracking) to manage work</li><li>
Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.</li><li>
Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
WHEN &amp; WHERE YOU&rsquo;LL WORK:
Hybrid: This position will work a hybrid schedule and open to candidates located in San Diego, California. Equipment for the role will be provided and training will occur onsite.
Schedule: This position will work Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM PST.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Knowledge, skills &amp; abilities:<ul><li>
Must be available to work full time for the duration of the 12-week summer internship</li><li>
Able to work effectively in a team environment.</li><li>
Able to alter behavior and opinions due to new information.</li><li>
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.</li><li>
Clear and effective written documentation skills.</li><li>
Analytical and problem-solving mindset with an interest in improving processes and methodologies.</li><li>
Ability to read and follow procedures and flow diagrams.</li><li>
Proficient knowledge of at least one programming language, preferably Python or JavaScript.</li><li>
Experience with Machine Learning libraries preferred</li><li>
Exposure to log analysis, time-series data analysis, or anomaly detection preferred.</li><li>
Familiarity with regulated environments or secure coding practices.</li><li>
Able to assert own ideas and persuade others through effectively consolidating, evaluating, and presenting relevant information.</li></ul>
Minimum certifications/educational level:
<ul><li>High School Diploma or equivalent, required.</li><li>
Currently pursuing a Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related field.</li><li>
Available to work full time for the 12 week summer internship period.</li><li>
Prior academic projects, industry experience, or volunteer work related to machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science preferred.</li></ul>
Minimum experience:<ul><li>
Intern experience in related environment, preferred.</li></ul>
COMPENSATION:
The starting base pay range for this position is $25.00 - $31.00 per hour. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate&rsquo;s location and the overall job market.
Please note that is a temporary position. As a temporary employee you will be employed through a staff agency partner. Benefits during your temporary assignment may be provided by the staffing agency. Access to Tandem sponsored benefits is contingent upon conversion from temporary to regular full-time status. Conversion is determined based upon business need and job performance.

A DAY IN THE LIFE:
The AI Solutions Intern will support the IT Platforms Enterprise Software team in the exploration, design, and development of artificial intelligence proof of concept solutions. This internship is a short term, full time learning opportunity focused on experimentation, applied AI use cases, and modern enterprise software development practices. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, this role will contribute to initiatives aligned with Tandem&rsquo;s emerging AI Center of Excellence, helping evaluate how AI technologies can support internal teams, software development workflows, and business operations. Project focus areas may evolve over the course of the internship based on business needs, technical discoveries, and learning objectives.
The AI Solutions Intern at Tandem is also responsible for:<ul><li>
Assist in the design, development, and evaluation of AI‑focused proof‑of‑concept solutions.</li><li>
Contribute to software components, services, or integrations supporting AI experimentation.</li><li>
Assist with integrating internal systems, APIs, and data sources to enable AI‑driven workflows.</li><li>
Support the evaluation and comparison of AI models and services available within Microsoft Azure, including models beyond OpenAI‑based offerings.</li><li>
Contribute to internal documentation, diagrams, and technical notes capturing findings, architecture options, and lessons learned.</li><li>
Participate in experimentation related to prompt design, AI behavior evaluation, and response quality analysis.</li><li>

Collaborate with the Enterprise Software team using standard development workflows and tooling (e.g., GitHub, issue tracking, code reviews).</li><li>

WHEN &amp; WHERE YOU&rsquo;LL WORK:
This role is on-site at our Del Mar (HQ) office due to the nature of the work involved. This position will work Monday - Friday.
WHAT YOU&rsquo;LL NEED:<ul><li>
High School Diploma or equivalent.</li><li>
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.</li><li>
Foundational understanding of software development concepts (through coursework, projects, or prior internships).</li><li>
Familiarity with APIs and service‑based architecture, headless design, microservices, etc.</li><li>
Exposure to source control and collaborative development practices (e.g., Git/GitHub).</li><li>
Strong interest in artificial intelligence, including large language models and applied AI systems.</li><li>
Curiosity and willingness to experiment with different AI approaches, tools, and architectures.</li><li>
Familiarity with or interest in cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.</li><li>
Ability to learn new technologies quickly in an evolving technical environment.</li><li>
